“At this hostel, I had the best time of my whole Japan trip!”

The charming house is about 100 years old and in very good, renovated condition with many smart solutions here and there. Both the garden in front of the house and in the courtyard are of outstanding beauty. It is calming and relaxing to just sit there and watch. The Japanese style dormitory is not only beatiful, but also very comfortable and clean. The kitchen is well equipped and the large common room provides space to chill, read a book or work. The owner of the hostel is very welcoming and invites the guests to join activities in and around Susami. One evening, friends came along to have a BBQ in the courtyard, and I was invited to join. Some people complain about missing things like toothbrushes, shampoo, etc., but the owner provides so much more: great hospitality.

I really liked my stay at あなかしこ. 10/10. The host is super friendly and helpful, the house is a clean and stylish old japanese-style house, local people were amazing and the location was very convenient. Just a 3min walk from the station. And the beach is right next to the hostel, so it’s easy to go for a quick dip. Also the tourist center is very close, so you can easily go and rent a bike etc and explore a bit further. The atmosphere at Susami was warm and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to have an authentic Japanese countryside experience and enjoy quiet and relaxed time. I stayed for a week but could have easily stayed for even longer! おすすめです！

The host is really friendly and also a traveller, you can see on the little details the efforts to make the place nice and convenient for us. The hostel is an large old style japanese house, with beautiful garden, wodden structure and tatami room. Being close to the station and also almost in front of the beautiful beach is far from good, and also the surrounding city is small and lovely, with some restaurants attending at late night is a big plus. P.s.: If you know that you snore loudly Don’t stop at this place nor any hostel, get a private room and don’t bother others.

“Beautiful hostel in a traditional old house directly by the ocean for a relaxing time in rural japan”

I spend 5 super relaxing days in Susami to flee the busy cites of Japan. The Town packs everything you need to calm down and enjoy a peaceful time in Nature. There is a coffee, multiple restaurants, an izakaya and a supermarket within max. 15min walking distance. The Ocean is right across the street in 1min. walking distance and Susami is surrounded by beautiful hiking / pilgrimage trails, waterfalls and other small coastal towns that offer a variety of unique sightseeing spots or activites (you can find all information in the local tourism centre). Although the hostel is located near the street you dont get bothered by the car noises (there are hardly any cars passing by after 6pm). I came during november where there were only 2 other travelers besides me. While the other travelers passed by on a pilgrimage i stayed in susami and had a great time with sosuke, the super friendly and helpful hostel host, who sometimes invited his friends over and let me participate in their talks around the campfire or other local activities. Anakashico hostel and the entire South of Wakayama area is a place where i definately want to return to and continue to explore more of japans beautiful nature and slow and peaceful country side.

the owner is really nice and also good at English. Easy to do the communication. Even though the hostel is an old house. The owner renovated it great. They get all the equipment you need and also very Japanese style.
