Overview
This family-owned, eastern Iceland property is located on Route 95, about 17 km from the town of Egilsstadir. It offers cottage and guest room accommodation with views of Sandfell Mountain. Stora Sandfell's rooms have tea/coffee facilities, a private bathroom and access to a shared kitchen. The cottages have a kitchenette and BBQ, while the bathroom facilities are either private or shared. The surrounding forest provides a nice setting for horseback riding. Stora Sandfell staff can also help arrange hiking tours in the Hjálpleysa Valley. Free private parking is possible at the property for guests who arrive by car.

The cottages were warm and welcoming and had a small kitchen each, enough for us to prepare a simple meal. We were the only guests in 2 of the 4 cottages and did not have anyone else using the shared toilets and showers which was conveniently located just 2 mins walk from our cottages. All good

We loved everything about the place, the cottage itself (with shared bathroom) was a jewel - cosy, warm, enlighted during the day and sufficiently dark for a good sleep. A fully equipped small kitchen within the cottages with a table, chairs, fantastic raised up beds, a small heating radiator, fridge, kettle, cups, plates, curlery and also apossibilty of sitting on the patio where was another set of chairs and a table. The scared bathroom and lavatory was also very warm and clean, owners have thought of every detail needed during these private time :) For us Stora Sandfell place offers a full comfort one needs when travelling through Iceland. Gladly will return, thank you !

“Very basic and small shed”
I booked around 9 accomodations for our trip to iceland. This was the most disapointing. For the same I price as I paid for the others, we got a small shed that even got cold during summer nights. There was a small separate heating device to compensate. Overal very basic for the amount spent.

“Nice stay in the woods”
The cottages are in the woods, making the atmosphere really magic! Our cottage was tiny but it included everything we could possibly need: the bed was comfy, the kitchen simple but well equipped. The temperature was great!
