Overview
Situated next to a forest and on the edge of the Low Tatras National Park, Hotel Altenberg offers a spa area with a steam bath, a sauna and 2 small pools. Slovak and International cuisine is served at the restaurant and you can also sample Pizza on site. The simply furnished rooms come with satellite TV and a radio. A bathroom with a shower and a hairdryer is provided in each room. Free wired internet is available in all rooms and free Wi-Fi access is offered in Altenberg’s public areas. Massages can be requested and the spa area features a cosy fireplace. During summer, you can relax in the garden and make use of the on-site barbecue facilities. Drinks are served at the hotel’s bar. Hotel Altenberg comes with a 24-hour front desk. The closest bus station is 50 metres away and the local pilgrimage church is 300 metres away. A playground can be reached within a 1-minute walk and the Turecká Ski Slopes are 5 km away. The ski area Donovaly is 15 km from the hotel and free public parking is available on site.

Staff, cleanliness and breakfast were fine. The location near (10 km approx) Donovaly is just ok as well.

Comfortable place for an overnight stay during business trip, quiet, good place for taking a rest. Enjoyed the sauna at the end of the day (with a cold dip).

If you want a quiet location enroute to Bratislava or Žilina, with direct access to the highway and food options on site, this is the place. The rooms are excellent.

“A beautiful and well-looked after 3-star hotel in the Tatra mountains.”
It is 15 mins drive from Banska Bystrica - the location is excellent for hiking, cycling, and shopping in the big city and is actually quite lively; they have music in the neighbouring accommodations at the weekend. The bus is regular until 7.30pm and stops outside of the hotel. I loved the size of the bathroom, the big window, and plenty of fresh air, the staff are just great and ready to go the extra mile to help you. I have not had the time to try the spa (12 Euros for hotel guests and 15 Euros for outsiders) but have been told it is "towel only" lol. A sweet little location in the middle of the Tatra mountains.

“Good and comfortable hotel.”
Nice and quiet hotel near teh skiing area of Donovaly in Slovakia. Also easy when travelling in Slovakia and flying in and out from Krakau Poland. Owner is very friendly and flexible. we arrived quite late and kitchen was closed, but she prepared a meal for us. Breakfast is good. Beds and blankets are small but just OK. Free parking. Although it was open and offered for use, we did not use the swimming pool and sauna.
