Hotel Encinar is, at its core, a well-kept hotel. The location in Sotogrande is decent, the rooms are spacious enough and kept clean, and the overall atmosphere of the property is pleasant. Unfortunately, the service experience left a lot to be desired, and not just once. In 3 out of 4 interactions with staff, the service was either unsatisfactory or outright poor. One example that stood out: I requested a barista coffee, only to be informed after the fact that it carried an extra charge during breakfast hours. To make matters worse, it turned out to be the exact same coffee as the one at the breakfast buffet, just served with milk. A coffee I can actually prepare better at home, since I use the very same brand myself. I had specifically requested before if they had a better coffee available. Charging extra for that, without mentioning it upfront when I ordered, is simply not acceptable and feels dishonest. At the front desk, when I sought a goodwill gesture or some degree of flexibility, staff were uncooperative. To their credit, management did later apologize for the handling of the situation, but by that point the damage was done. The amount of energy spent on what should have been a minor issue was simply not worth it. My honest takeaway: if management invested more in staff training and customer service culture, this hotel could easily become a fine hotel in the area. The foundations are there, it just needs the right team to match the quality of the property

Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was a lovely size with a very large bed which was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was good and there were a nice variety of things to choose from.
