We had an amazing stay at SMW Lodge. We stayed for three nights to explore the local area. The staff were incredibly helpful helping us with our travel plans; arranging an early morning tuktuk to climb Pidurangala Rock for sunrise, taking us, along with other guests in their 4x4 to visit Polonnaruwa and also a short Elephant safari on our final morning. I’d recommend this place to anyone wanting an authentic Sri Lankan home stay, with comfortable rooms, a lovely family host and amazing food and hospitality!

We had originally booked a different room, but when we arrived, we learned that they had built a new small house and had just opened it, so we took advantage of the opportunity and switched to this room. It had a nice covered porch (which we used for cozy reading when it rained), a spacious room with air conditioning and a large bed, and a small refrigerator. The bathroom next door had a shower and a bathtub. The rooms, towels, and sheets were clean, and the room and walls were not damp or smelly. We spent four nights there and were very satisfied! The owners were extremely friendly and helpful and assisted us with planning and booking various activities. Breakfast was served in the morning at a time agreed upon in advance. It usually consisted of bread, sweet pancakes (sometimes made with dough, sometimes with noodles), eggs, and savory filled pastries. The owners made our stay very memorable, and we will fondly remember their kindness and helpfulness!

A quit lovely stay

We stayed for 4 nights and were really well looked after. Our host provided a lot of really good recommendations, organised a safari for us and picked us up via tuk tuk or jeep. Food was provided for breakfast and could be provided for lunch and dinner too and was always really tasty. Highly recommend!

Family run small hotel. Owners are more than friendly, arranged everything for me (tours, tuktuk, laundry and taxi to my next stop). Really great place, in nature on a quite road.

“Great value for money, amazing garden right in the jungle, lovely hosts!”

Comfortable bed, hot water and good shower, amazing garden with loads of flowers and trees - you will be right in the jungle so it’s very peaceful at night. You can spot birds, squirrels and other animals when sitting on your porch. The breakfast was very good and the cherry on top of the cake is the lovely owner with his family. We felt welcome and at home there!

Very kind and helpful staff. The location and breakfast is great. Very affordable. It's in the middle of a forest and quite cheap, so some bugs are to be expected ofc. We were provided with a mosquito net though that did a good job. The air conditioned was great too.

Our stay at SMW Lodge was simply wonderful. The room was large, beautifully designed, and very clean – we felt comfortable and at home from the very beginning. The lodge is set in a lovely garden, surrounded by nature, which created a peaceful and quiet atmosphere that we truly enjoyed. The host was absolutely amazing – always smiling, very welcoming, helpful, and generous. He was attentive without ever being intrusive, and we really appreciated his kind and warm personality. Breakfast was excellent every day, and he even adapted the breakfast time to match our daily plans and activities. He went above and beyond by offering to drive us to all the local attractions and even got up early in the morning to take us to Lion’s Rock in time for the sunrise. He also arranged a cooking class for us and took us to his brother’s hotel so we could enjoy their swimming pool. The entire family was incredibly warm and kind – we felt so welcome. This was by far the best accommodation we stayed at during our trip to Sri Lanka. Thank you so much for everything!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The host was so attentive and helpful. They were really helpful in doing our laundry for us, and helped to answer any questions we had. The bed was really comfortable and the bedroom was a really nice size. We also really enjoyed the breakfasts.
