The communication at the Hotel was great, within short drive to multiple snow ski resorts. car parking at front door, breakfast great.

The breakfast was a stunner, the Sento bath was relaxing, the vibe and ambience were fun and tranquil. Above all, Chris and the staff went absolutely out of their way with kindness and joy to look after all the guests, and make our stay perfect. Vicky and I were treated like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble, and I can’t honestly think of one problem or issue. Chris is an extremely generous, thoughtful and engaging host. Also, Elan picks you up from the railway station, and as well takes you to each of the ski fields as you request -this is completely above and beyond any expectation we have ever had of any hotel we’ve stayed in. Stay for a week - you won’t want to leave!

The hotel was very clean and the rooms were spacious. You don't get your own bathroom but it was very easy to use the shared facilities. The restaurant food was delicious. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Washing machine and dryer were provided free of charge.

The staff and meal was the highlight. Chris, Josh and his team made us feel well looked after. Chris provided a free shuttle to and fron ski fields during our stay and helped booking a restaurant for us. We had two dinners at Elan, and the food was very delicious. Free laundry which isn't common.

An authentic warm and cosy home from home where the owner and staff go above and beyond to ensure a fantastic stay . The location is a bit remote but the free shuttle service offered by the hotel gets you were you need to go

The room was spacious and comfortable with amazing lake views that changed every day. The staff were so helpful- Chris took care of ski hire, transport to the resorts and dinners. Nothing was ever too much trouble!

“Lovely spot, will stay again.”

The location is spectacular, in winter the snow was all around and it looked like a fairy tale. The free breakfast was eggs Fried or scrambled bacon sausages, Cerial, yoghurt, fruit, toast, salad greens etc. Rooms were basic but sufficient as we spent very little time in our rooms, lovely little balcony type thing where the windows opened for you to sit and look over the lake.

Chris and Josh were very warm and helpful. Would highly recommend the place. In house restaurant was great. Hot public bath was clean.

Staff, dinner and breakfast

The waiter was so lovely. He not only tried to book snowboarding for us when the reception staff disappeared, but he (and another worker) assisted us in getting our car ready in the heavy snow for the drive. We were so grateful for his help.

The room had a private bathroom and a wonderful lake view. The breakfast was really good and more then enough! I really liked going to the hot tub or going to the gym after i was finished with exploring. But a special mention goes to yuta who offered transportation to the train station and surrounding hikes. Without him i would have been stuck at the lake!

Location in hills good but very much an out of season feel to it and what was available. Travelling by car with flex to explore longer term would be good but for 3 nights in a longer itinerary didn't work.

Couldn’t recommend this spot highly enough. The staff were legends. Couldn’t do enough for you. We were lucky we had the place to ourselves but wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Got access to paddle boards owned by the hotel, location was right on the lake. Lovely hot baths downstairs. Chris & Yuta sorted everything from booking e-bikes to taxing us around the place. Lovely chill out stay and will be back.

The hosts, the ambience, the nature, the bath in the basement. And the bed and beddings - best we’ve had in Japan! But especially the hosts!

The best stay of all our trip, the whole team at Elan Hotel Lake Nojiri is out of this world, so helpful, friendly, it made our stay the best. Excellent food, onsen, room was clean and comfortable.
