Lovely guesthouse and lovely owners and staff! Wish I could've stayed longer honestly, the dinner was really tasty and I met a lot of incredible people on my 2 nights there. They even gave me an umbrella for free at the check out because it was raining a lot and I didn't have one (silly me). Definitely coming back if I stay in Sendai again.

The welcome was very pleasant with a smile, and the evening meal was truly excellent; it's a shame they didn't offer something of the same caliber for breakfast.

Amazing people and truly outstanding service. I’m vegetarian, and they went out of their way to prepare a delicious vegetarian dinner just for me.

“Cozy hostel in a quiet area, good if you want to meet new people”

The staff was super friendly and very active in trying to make the residents feel welcome (I even discovered that I shared taste in music with some of them). I was quite tired in the evenings, so unfortunately I didn't participate in the dinners/gatherings hosted by the hostel, but from what I could hear, it seemed fun :-) A light breakfast is also provided in the morning, which I think is quite generous and nice if you e.g. need to catch a train and won't have time to go somewhere.

Like the other reviews have said, this is an extraordinary guesthouse. Keiko and Masaki, and their team, went above and beyond to make me feel at home. They are really amazing people. Just the best place I have stayed in Japan. Thank you very, very much Umebachi family - I am humbled.

Amazing stay at Sendai Guest House UMEBACHI! The staff was incredible, providing helpful local tips, and they made amazing food as well. The entire place was super clean, had a nice workspace area, and the evening hangout sessions were really cozy.

The location was peaceful and quiet. And the hosts were also very friendly and welcoming and spoke English. The place was very clean.

Had such a lovely 2-night stay here. Staff are incredibly kind and welcoming, and cooked dinner for me and the other guests every night. I was given great recommendations for food and places to see in the areas I was visiting too. Very sociable place, I highly recommend. I hope to return on my next trip to Japan. Saikou!

I gad a great time! Really good place with nice and welcoming staff, a comfortable bed and pretty close to a train station. They do dinner together every evening and It was very nice sitting and talking with the staff and other travellers. Highly recommend to anyone in the area!

“One of the best hostel experience in Japan”

This is one of the best hostels I have stayed in Japan. The staff are welcoming and helpful; the atmosphere is nice in the common area. Although I am not familiar with Japanese, I can still feel the friendliness from local guests and have some nice chats with both guests and staff. The dinner they offered is tasty and fresh, which depends on the food they have bought to create, making it worthwhile to return to the hostel a bit earlier. The handmade plum wine is good too. They keep everything tidy and clean. I am surprised to have a down quilt on my bed, very warm and lightweight. Everything in the hostel suggests that the owner has put a great deal of effort into maintaining it. That was part of my best experience on the trip, thank you! :)

Wow! I was blown away by the energy of this place. Everyone was so friendly and there was a great mix of staff and guests who spent the whole evening and morning chatting away. I was really impressed that everyone could carry out a conversation in Japanese too which was so fun.

the guesthouse and the staff are very very nice. I reallly recommend to buy the meal prepared by the owner, he cooks so well. You can eat it together with the other guests and ask also for some drinks like saké e umeshu

The exceptional thing about this hostel is how the staff actively made an effort into welcoming travellers, Japanese and international into a temporary family. They helped with starting conversation and organizing dinner for staff and guests, and it just works. 11/10 staff experience for me. The atmosphere is great because of it too. Other than that it is just a nice little guest house with a couple of rooms, better showers than usual and everything I needed for my stay.
