This island on the Puerto Viejo River offers charming rooms with balconies, overlooking the tropical rainforest of Sarapiqui. Heliconia Island features a traditional restaurant, botanical gardens and a free Wi-Fi zone. Heliconia Island is a haven for exotic plants and animals, including toucans, hummingbirds, howler monkeys and sloths. You can explore the rainforest or go canoeing or rafting on the river. Located in rustic-style cabins, Heliconia Island’s stylish rooms feature bamboo furniture and either a fan or air conditioning. The private bathrooms offer a shower, a hairdryer and free toiletries. Heliconia Island is located just outside Braulio Carrillo National Park, in northern Costa Rica. The village of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is 10 km away, while San José is an hour’s drive away.

“An affordable ‘eco-lodge’”
The location is great, next to the river and with a beautiful garden. The beds are spacious, and the breakfast is good with homemade bread. It was nice bathing in the river.

A truly wonderful place to stay. You park your car and then walk over a small metal bridge to enter a garden island, completely surrounded by water, which is so beautiful, full of trees, flowers, and wildlife. Excellent range of birds in the garden, which the owner feeds each morning so you can eat breakfast watching them. Very friendly host who cooked us a lovely meal in the evening. The room was large and so well thought out and decorated. The bedroom was surrounded by windows, enabling you to observe the birds whilst sitting in bed. Howler monkeys and toucans in the garden were the highlights

“Great location & owner, facilities need more attention”
Beautiful garden with lots of interesting plants & animals, e.g. saw a large group of howler monkeys in a tree and a variety of birds during breakfast. Jungle feeling at night with great wildlife sound. Very friendly owner who helped us with booking a tour and prepared a very delicious dinner for us. Enjoyed swimming in the river, just need to be careful with small kids.

Beautiful location.amazing hospitality and the host is friendly and welcoming. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, photographers paradise. Woke up each morning to an orchestra of birds singing. Thank you to the host for making us welcome.

“A clean comfortable and friendly location near to Sarapiqui”
A clean and comfortable room set in a beautiful garden and next to a river were one can bathe. Pierre the host was very helpful who makes delicious scrambled eggs and his own bread (which is much better than what you can buy locally). He also organized an excursion with Angelica to a local farm where we could bathe under the waterfalls. An excursion away from the masses of tourists. The lush big garden was also a pleasure to visit.

“Comfortable accomodation”

In our opinion this accommodation was excellent. The land around the property is like a mini reserve with resident Howler Monkeys and superb bird watching. The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful and the wifi in the room was very good.
