“Unique experience”

Staying in a medieval village overnight is a great experience. The village (despite the ongoing renovation works) is full of charm, the room we stayed in was great, it is certainly not your typical hotel room, with all the candles, the chimney, the wool mattress... It gives a very strong medieval experience, while still providing great comfort. I would highly recommend this hotel to people wanting to try something a little different.

“Back in the Middle Ages—literally”

Charming hotel, everything has been renovated in an old-style design. The staff is exceptionally friendly. It feels like you’re transported back to the Middle Ages—really amazing.

We spent two nights at Sextantio Albergo Diffuso in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, and the experience inside the hotel itself was truly exceptional. This is preservation hospitality at its finest — thoughtful, poetic, and deeply romantic. The room was absolutely stunning. Beautifully restored with original stone, wood, and natural materials, it felt timeless and intimate. The atmosphere was incredibly calm and romantic, with soft lighting and a sense of being gently disconnected from the modern world, without sacrificing comfort. Sleeping there felt like inhabiting history in the most elegant way. The cantina was outstanding. The food was delicious, high-quality, and deeply rooted in local tradition. Every meal felt authentic, refined, and comforting at the same time. The ambiance was warm and atmospheric, making dining there a highlight of our stay.

Unique property in keeping with natural setting

My stay in Santo Stefano di Sessanio , in Sextantio Albergo Diffuso was truly unforgettable. The hotel was beautifully restored using traditional materials and techniques, giving the rooms an incredibly authentic and historic charm. It felt like stepping back in time, but with all the comfort and attention to detail you could ask for. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. A special thank you to Fabiana and Jessica, who went above and beyond even before my arrival — answering all my questions quickly, helping me plan my trip, and organizing two amazing experiences: a cheese-making class and a bread-making class right in the village. Both were not only fun but deeply connected me to the local culture. The village itself is small but full of character. There are several lovely restaurants and charming little shops where you can find local products and souvenirs. If you love nature, you can go hiking in the nearby Gran Sasso mountains or visit historical sites like Rocca Calascio. Overall, this was a peaceful, enriching escape — the perfect place to slow down and disconnect. I would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking for something truly special and authentic.

“Fascinating place, outstanding concept, beautiful attention to detail”

The ethos of the project is incredible and I think they've really succeeded in many ways conceptually. The room was really beautiful and the attention to detail and care that was put into each element was breathtaking. From a sustainability point of view, there was nowhere we stayed that came near it. No plastic, natural materials, repurposing and using antique furniture. There were lovely details like the complimentary bottle of genziana and the bath oil, beeswax candles. The village of Santa Di Stefano is truly incredible and it's good to see it being restored with respect to what was there before instead of the extreme facelifts that we saw in other Borgos in Abruzzo and Umbria on our trip. The village still has its soul and personality. The breakfast was really delicious and extensive, lots of local products (and again, no plastic!).

“A rural ideal”

It’s exactly as described, a lovely rustic stay in a wonderful mountainous location. Particularly loved the e bike tour and the truffle hunting.

It was just stunning. I was lucky to find this hotel. Room, Restaurant and People in the reception and restaurant were just perfect. I had a rest there. Hopely come again and stay longer there.

Unique experience. Room and facilities were maintained to a very high standard, with surprisingly excellent WiFi! Breakfast was superb, great variety of traditional food served in a lovely restaurant terrace. Staff at breakfast were very attentive.
