The room was clean and comfortable, the aircon was great. The kitchen actually had what we needed to cook and the staff were lovely. There was also a great sitting area on the top balcony which was perfect to eat, relax, work or even have a nap in a hammock. This hostel was also in a perfect location close to a grocery store and walking distance from the beach

“Perfect, Pura Vida style”

I really enjoyed the place and its location. It has a very chill, surf-vibe atmosphere and a true Pura Vida style. I definitely recommend this hostel. It offers great value for money, Pablo is very welcoming, and everyone is super friendly. The beds are comfortable, and it’s also possible to take surf lessons there. 😍

Super nice room in a perfectly located spot in Santa Teresa. The facility has different nice common spaces. The surf instructors were all excellent and provided great feedback to help you improve. We also did the tour to Isla Tortuga with them which was really great fun! Totally recommend the structure, the surf classes and the tour!

For me the best in the hostel was the people, the stuff are very friendly, and the surf lessons are amazing!! The room was also good!

The most professional surf school I've ever seen, video tutorials every evening. The hostel is clean, spacious rooms with air conditioning. Large common area with hammocks and sofas and a place to watch TV. Great wifi. The game changer was two large, well-equipped kitchens that allowed me to cook a lot of things - important in overpriced Santa Teresa

“Solo Traveler / Tent”

Stayed in one of the tents for 4 nights. Great space for solo or couple. AC was great, shower was large and semi outdoors. They say its a tent but well covered from rain. Big areas for cooking/dining spaces. Lots ofroom to hang out in communal areas. Staff were helpful. It is located in a great area close to beach and food options as well as grocery. Overall, it was a great experience.

I don’t like writing bad reviews, especially in the hotel industry, because I understand it’s hard work. However, after traveling around the world—including many countries, even India—I have finally found the worst place I’ve ever stayed in. Bottom line: This place is completely neglected. The owners and staff simply do not care—it desperately needs new management. If you're here to surf, just surf and leave the hotel to someone else to manage! Internet? Forget about it if you're in the back rooms or on the second floor. The router is near reception, where the family that lives in the front of the hostel probably gets all the signal. Hot water? Nonexistent. Yes, there is no hot water in the shower. Actually, forget about the shower altogether—there were multiple times when there was no water at all. One of the rooms had water issues, and instead of fixing it properly, they shut off the water for everyone. In one of my rooms, the showerhead was clogged with stones, but I had to drag the owner there to prove it after he insisted it was a general low-pressure issue on the second floor. And by the way, low pressure is easily fixable—if this were a decently managed place, they would have taken care of it. Air conditioning? Some rooms don’t have it working properly, especially on the top floor. This area is extremely hot and humid at night, and without AC, sleeping is nearly impossible. Soap? After using the toilet, don’t expect to find any. The most basic hygiene item—especially post-COVID—is missing. Common area on the second floor? It’s supposed to be a resting area, but the fans are tiny—only two of them—and they’re old and rusty. Every other place I’ve stayed in Central America has big ceiling fans because, well, it’s insanely hot here! It wouldn’t even be expensive to install them, unless you're just selfishly pocketing all the guests' money instead of providing the basic services you're supposed to.

Great location, across the road from playa carmen. Big hostel with lots of different kitchens, pool table, work area, chill out areas etc. Coffee is provided each morning. Rooms have air con.

If you're looking for really good surf coaching and a great hostel, I can only recommend El Gatos Rochas. I've been surfing for a few years and somehow got stuck. Marquitos and his team have helped me improve my surfing and switch to a smaller board. Each surf lesson is complemented by a video analysis which is not only very educational but also often very entertaining. Jana and Marquitoss, the owners of the hostel, have a talent for creating a pleasant and respectful atmosphere, although there are many people in the hostel, it is very clean and the quiet times are usually respected. They also organise boat trips and events for special occasions such as Christmas and New Year's Eve. They and their team take good care of the guests and always have lots of tips in store.
