Loved the rooms and the overall vibe of the hostel. My room was cosy and it always felt like I was coming back home. The rooftop terrace is magical!

Great location, nice decor, easy check in, had a shared kitchen so we could finally cut our fruits. Basic but for the price it is a very nice option!

This property offers excellent value and has the feel of a small, thoughtfully designed boutique hotel. Our private room and bathroom were very comfortable, and the entire space is styled with a natural, relaxed aesthetic, full of greenery that makes it feel calm and welcoming. The caretaker is incredibly kind and helpful, always available if you need anything. Hot water is reliable thanks to an on-demand system, and she is also a great resource for local recommendations. She offers helpful tips on where to go, what to see, and can assist with booking excursions if you prefer to arrange them through the property. One of our favorite features was the rooftop terrace. It is a great space to make coffee, stretch, do some light yoga, or simply unwind and socialize. Yoga mats are provided, and the kitchen is well equipped with everything needed for cooking during your stay. The location is outstanding. There is a fantastic bakery just a short walk away, along with several nice cafés nearby. The main pedestrian street is only one block away, placing you right in the center of town. The cathedral and main square are just a few blocks away, and the market is an easy 10 to 15 minute walk. We had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

“A Social Stay With a Hands-On Host!”

It’s a nice place for a short-term stay, and the staff is generally available when you need something. If you’re a very social person who enjoys spending time with the host and her assistant, you’ll probably appreciate the atmosphere. They’re friendly, like to chat with guests, and share plenty of recommendations about their tours, places to visit, and what to eat. They also offer laundry service for 100 pesos, and drinking water is available for 5 pesos per liter, which you can easily track. The kitchen is small but handy. The cleaner is a local Mexican woman who is very sweet, and sometimes her children accompany her—her little girl is especially adorable. Overall, I had good moments, but I think this place is best for guests who enjoy a very close, personal dynamic with the host.

“Most wonderful host and amazing stay in San Cristobal”

We had such a lovely stay with Marta. The hostel felt like a home and gave off such a welcoming atmosphere. The host was so friendly and helpful, she went above and beyond to make our stay even more enjoyable. The location was fantastic, so many shops and restaurants close by and a short walk to the centre. I throughly enjoyed my stay at Hostel Boutique 55 and would definitely recommend to anyone

This is a fantastic place to stay in San Cris. It's very close to the central square, yet you sleep most peacefully at night as the street is quiet and the beds so soft and comfortable. The place was very clean and Marta was the most amazing hostess, helping us with literally everything we needed and she has a great vibe. Thank you so so much for an excellent stay ❤

“Unpleasant Hotel Experience and Unprofessional Service”

First, I would like to point out that this hotel has no reception, and all communication is exclusively through WhatsApp with the owner. But now, let's get to the actual surprise at check-in: On Booking.com, it was stated that the shower and toilet are inside the room. However, upon arrival, I had to realize that the bathroom was not in the room! When I contacted the owner, she mentioned that the bathroom is indeed outside the room, in the hallway, but don't worry, it's usually "only" used by the staff. The owner offered to cancel the reservation free of charge. I just had to request the cancellation through Booking.com, and she would confirm it for free. However, she claimed that the error was on Booking.com's part, and she had no other way to indicate that the bathroom is outside the room. I am sure, though, that there could have been alternative formulations on Booking.com (as the customer service later confirmed). She evidently did not take this disagreement well. Suddenly, I received a flood of long voice messages in which she showered me with a series of insults. I asked her to stop contacting me on WhatsApp and just approve the cancellation, as she had promised. Meanwhile I found an alternative accommodation. I wrote to her several times, asking her to simply accept the cancellation so that we could put the matter behind us. After a prolonged back-and-forth, more lies, and delays she informed me the next day that she had changed her mind. I ultimately had to pay the costs. Additionally, it's important to note that there is no free option to store luggage before or after the stay at the hotel. Any storage incurs an hourly (!) charge – This would typically be considered a complimentary service. However, when I addressed the owner about the fee, and this was before all the inconveniences, she confirmed that, but she offered me the option to cancel my booking on Booking.com and pay her in cash.

I had a lovely stay with Martha and the team. The hostel feels more like a home and the rooms are super cozy. Everyone provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The location is also great, many shops and restaurants around and just a couple minutes walking from the center. I would always stay here again!

Very homely and welcoming property. Very accessible and a great location very close to the centre. The host was nothing but helpful and very friendly. Very good value for money. They do a cleaning service for $100mx which was a dream after travelling for a couple weeks so far having no time to find a launderette. The room was very clean and cosy with clean towels provided. Would recommend this property to anyone :)

“Beautiful little hotel in the centre of San Cristobal”

I only stayed here for a night, and arrived late, so I really just slept there. But my room was amazing - so beautifully decorated and cosy, just like the hotel itself. The staff were really friendly and helpful in communicating to me how to get into the hotel after hours. The room was so well designed and has everything you need - including loads of USB charging ports by the bed, very handy!
