“Nice property, but get the deposit you have paid back, before you leave the property.”

We stayed at this property for a week. It is a nice property with a nice pool. It is at the end of a sandy/bumpy track, that is not obvious from the listing, and you definitely need a car. We paid a 1000 euro deposit that was to be returned if everything was OK at the end of the holiday. We didn’t have the euros in cash and didn’t have a cheque, which we now recommend, as this would have been returned on the last day. We did a bank transfer. We look after any property in the way we would expect others to look after ours. Ahead of departure, we vacuumed the floors, cleaned out the fridge, wiped the hob and all surfaces, made the beds and emptied the bins (taking the general rubbish and recycling the 1km to large bins down the muddy track). It was left clean and tidy. The female agent arrived, we advised what we had done to clean the property. She agreed it all looked good and that we would get the full deposit refunded on Monday into the bank. Note - This is where the euros or the cheque deposit would have been a better option as they would have been given back to us at that time or a cheque ripped up. This would have been fine. Following a chase up call to the agent they advised they were keeping 150 euros as the house had been disgusting. This is an absolute lie. We had cleaned the house, and they had agreed with us all was ok and we would get our full deposit back. We were told we hadn’t stripped the beds (we would have done had we know we needed to), and we hadn’t emptied the vacuum, the oven was not clean. (It was, we hadn’t used it) and one bin still had rubbish in it. I always assume that villas and apartments are cleaned between rental. They were obviously hoping to avoid this. We had to make the beds on arrival. I’m sure the agents will comment on this, but I have no reason to lie, this is exactly what happened. When asked how they had arrived at the 150 euros they were holding back, they couldn’t respond. They would not allow us to access the owners..
