I am very glad I found this place. I ended up learning so much about the local culture. I stayed for four nights and saw a Chinamwale dance as well as a Gule Wamkulu dance (for fun). After travelling in Malawi for four weeks and now Zambia for a week, this was the first place, where due to the diversity of projects going on in the Center, I really got a better idea about the live of the local people and everyone was just so welcoming, independent of them being part of the tourist accomodation or e.g. gardening project. The lodge is low budget but has WiFi and 24/7 electricity due to solar power. I really enjoyed staying in Huntington House, it felt so comfortable. The food is simple but tasty and the ladies are happy to cook you crazy stuff you bring from the local market like crickets (which were surprisingly tasty). I would definitely come back a second time.

As advertised, Tiko ist he real Africa. We stayed for three days and had a great time! We were welcomed with open arms right from the beginning. Our kids (ages 7, 9 and 15 yrs) quickly connected with the local kids, despite some language difficulties, and were mostly to be found either on the football field or somewhere in the yard running around. We adults were shown the local projets: the compost programm, the internet cafe and the area. Throughout are stay we were invited to a service at church, were taken on a trip to the surrounding areas, got to see the initiation dance for young women and were taken to a nearby village to see a ghost dance at night. All very impressive experiences that you dont get to see with your usual tourist guide. And it is a win-win-situation: the local people and the project profit from tourists and the tourists get to see real local life apart from the usual tourist programms. Accommodation is basic, but has all one needs. The food is nothing fancy but tasty and you can eat local food if you like, you will be fed three times a day. They offer different activities and workshops that will give you an deeper understanding of the people and the area. The people at Tiko are all nice and welcoming, some even a little shy. Overall a great place, also for families with kids. A must visit for everyone who wants to dive a little deeper into rural life in Zambia. We would love to come back some day <3

a really good project. the place offers many exciting tours and activities, such as visits to local villages, local schools and religious communities, authentic Gule Wamkulu, workshops and much more. We were lucky enough to be invited to a party on site, with all the locals, music, dance, plays, local food, and traditional dances. It's not a luxury hotel, but it has the facilities you need, and it's really nice for the price.

Hilight of my zambian trip

It was a big surprise. I won’t talk much about the room because it’s not about the room, which was surprisingly comfortable anyway, but it is, in fact, about everything else. First, I was so charmed by the surrounding; the place looked like a paradise oasis. Very green, preserved nature, very well maintained but more than everything I was delighted by the people warm welcoming. They are so smiling, kind and friendly that I directly felt at home. I spend the time knowing about the place, there is so many things happening just inside the community, so much to discover and learn in such a small area. Those people live in the future, it’s obvious that they understood the climate change and environmental crisis we are facing because everything they created is thought to face it. They are an example for resilience and for the inevitable ecological transition every country will have to complete soon or later. It is more than just an hotel, it is a center of permaculture combined with a tourism lodged run by local peoples. Therefore, it responds to the big tree prior issues of any project, Economic, environmental and social. And I definitely think that in the future with a good tourism income it will only grow and help more and more people from Katete to get out of poverty. Actually, the community even come up with a ‘’22 steps out of poverty’’ method that anyone can discover when they go there. So, for a traveler or tourist to find such a place is definitely a blessing and big surprise, it’s the kind of place that balance so well the tourism comfort and entertainment with the authenticity of local culture and traditional roots, that you feel safe visiting it and still when you visited it you can say, ‘’I visited the real Africa’’.
