We had booked Chez Annie for a week, last not least because of the good ratings and evaluations on the booking.com site. On arrival, we were met with a terrible smell inside the place, most likely stemming from the thick mould, especially in the sleeping room. Next to the fridge in the kitchen, blank electric wires were sticking out of the wall. Unbelievable!!! During the first night I suffered an asthma attack because of the smell and the mould. Early next morning, we told the lady that we needed to leave because of the terrible hygienic conditions at Chez Annie, claiming back our money, something that the landlady strictly refused. I was supposed "to see a doctor first". What an insult! I informed booking.com about the facts. A day later, I went to the tourist office in Montpazier, informing them about the awful conditions at Chez Annie. The tourist office then got in touch with the Mairie (the Mayor) of Saint-Avit-Rivière. We even went so far as informing the local Gendarmerie about the place. They went to visit Chez Annie the very same afternoon. Only because of their interfering, we were finally refunded the money for six nights. It was a most disgusting and most horrible experience. Leaves me wondering why evaluations and ratings on booking. com were so high for that place. I highly recommend the kind reader to go through the list of names, having rated this place so well before - you might find some interesting correlations. As far as I know, the place is still up for hire on booking.com.

We had a lovely host who looked after us really well and provided an excellent breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and we're able to explore the nearby mediaeval town.
