Living history

We felt like we were coming into a living museum. It was beautiful. One family having run this hotel for over 100 years in the same place. Felt like we were becoming part of Canadian history. Upon walking into the foyer there were what could be considered working artifacts on the walls in the parlor, everywhere in the hotel. Considering when this hotel opened Queen Victoria was on the throne, it was amazing to see that many of the items that would have been around throughout the centuries, yes centuries, were still there. It was like stepping back into time, which we found charming and comforting. The Marshlands Inn is a hidden gem! It should be supported and can and preserved as such. In Europe this hotel would be a centerpiece of a country. Even our room in the carriage House which we coined the delft room was a walk-through history. Not everything is shiny and new, but each nick and scratch tell a story of some kind, both large and small. It was also an incredible value! We'll be talking about the Marshlands Inn for quite a while and telling our family and friends about it 🙂

It was in a good location, a short walk to restaurants. The room was comfortable and clean. The outdoor area was large and had chairs for relaxing on a nice day. Dog friendly.

The history. The house has maintained its old world character. Plenty to stop, read or view. It is right on the main street.

I'd go back to Marshlands Inn anytime. Beautiful building, setting and appointments.

An historic building with heaps of character and history on display. Clearly a mecca in its heyday. Loved being in the main building. Friendly host and convenient dining area for breakfasts and night dining and lunch if desired.

This historical inn is definitely worth staying at for those visiting or passing through the region.

Really enjoyed the historical aspects of the inn. The decor in the parlour rooms, dining room and our suite transported my wife and I back in time to the 1940s or even earlier. The friendliness of our waiter for breakfast was enjoyed as well. Close proximity to town but with peaceful grounds around the inn were also appreciated.
