I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the non-refund of my booking. The reservation was made under a free cancellation policy and was cancelled within the permitted timeframe, in full compliance with the agreed terms and conditions. Despite this, I have not received my refund. I was informed that the matter is “under review,” which is unacceptable given that no breach of the cancellation policy has occurred. Under these circumstances, I am entitled to a full and prompt refund. Any delay in processing this payment is not justified and falls below expected consumer standards. I am particularly disappointed, as I have previously stayed at your hotel and did not expect to encounter such an issue, nor the lack of communication that has followed. Please treat this matter as urgent. I request that my refund be processed immediately and that written confirmation be provided, including a clear timeframe for the return of funds. If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will have no alternative but to escalate the issue further, including initiating a formal dispute with my payment provider and seeking advice regarding my consumer rights. I look forward to your immediate response.

Convenient location away from the hustle and bustle of central Rio especially during Carnival. The shuttle was very convenient and we enjoyed the beach service.

“I do not recommend this hotel”

My family and I booked two rooms at the Radisson Barra Rio de Janeiro. Booking lists it as a 5-star hotel, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The hotel experience was terrible, and the only reason we didn’t leave earlier was due to having prepaid the stay. The following is a short list of the shortcomings of the hotel: 1. Broken AC: As soon as we arrived, our room had a failing AC unit which created a puddle right next to the bed. We requested a room change and got a room without a fully functioning AC, but we were too tired to complain. 2. Small rooms: Rooms are much smaller than shown in pictures; closet space is practically non-existent. 3. No concierge: When traveling abroad, my family and I usually rely on the help of the local concierge to organize certain activities and use their expertise. This didn’t happen, since the concierge was not available for 4 of the 6 days of our stay. 4. Late cleaning service: The cleaning staff did not make up the room until around 6 pm on most of the days we were there. There is no worse feeling than coming back tired to an unexpectedly untidy room. 5. Late breakfast: The breakfast buffet was supposed to open at 6 am but was not ready at 7 am. 6. Rude staff: As simple as that, the staff were rude on multiple occasions and pretended not to speak Spanish to ignore our complaints. 7. Dirty cutlery: On two occasions, we sat at a table with previously used cutlery which had not been removed. 8. Unhelpful management: When we contacted the manager regarding all the issues mentioned above, no action was taken. Fortunately, Rio de Janeiro is a great city, and not even a terrible hotel can ruin the experience.
