The rooms are great, especially when there are no other guests, and the toilets are clean, but they have an unpleasant odor. The place is very quiet and beautiful, but quite far from the center of Amsterdam, but it's worth the price. It's okey

Absolutely everything and everyone. A family business, who are kind and caring and very welcoming. Beds are divided onto units of 2 ppl in one large dorm. It was like having my own room. The building has been decorated beautifully, looks more like a hotel than a hostel. Amazing customer service. I would live there. Just located outside of Amsterdam, away from all the limelight. Located in a little square of restaurants and bars, close to a shopping centre which is half the price for everything in regards to Amsterdam. 4€ for a glass of wine, compared to 9€ in Amsterdam. The locals all say hello and smile, they made me very welcome. All rounder 100% .I definitely recommend this hostel. I met a french girl who lives there, she was so kind and caring. I was suffering from anxiety on my first day, she supported me, offered me food and care. She became a friend automatically. I will miss her and think of her welfare always.

I had a pleasant stay in Purmerend! The place was very clean, which I really appreciated. The staff were kind and accommodating, and they gave me a single room with a bunk bed, which was cozy and unique.

I could not stay there and would not recommend it to backpackers or single females

I actually didn't stay there. I checked in, the staff were very nice. However, the room was not locked, the kitchen was actually used by the premises as a restaurant kitchen, though not currently in use. The hostel was more like a shelter. I felt uncomfortable - the other clients were largely migrants and it seemed more like an international protection accommodation in that respect. I work with migrants so I do not mean this comment to appear racist, it is not. The mattresses were covered in rubber, like for children who wet the bed. When I opened the last only free locker in the dorm, there was a large half bottle of vodka inside. I just didn't feel it would be a safe or comfortable place for me to stay, as a single woman. When I went to return my key, the owner was mind and offered me a single room, at no extra cost, which was very kind. However, I had already booked alternative accommodation, so I did not accept his offer. I didn't even view the room. As I said, the staff were genuine and kind. The location is very good, the price is very cheap. However, I don't feel that this hostel is suitable for single females like myself. There were mostly male guests, who mostly seemed to be more long-term, low-income migrant workers rather than backpackers/travellers. As I was booked into a mixed dorm, with no lock on the door, I really felt I couldn't stay there and would not recommend it as a place for backpackers.
