“Glamping”

Lovely open air spot with a ton of wildlife (and insects). Stylish decorations. Nice open air shower. Comfortable temperature where I never even used the fan. Great and huge breakfasts prepared by Leon, and Leon is a friendly host despite my language barrier. Some great restaurants within a 5 minute walk, and 10 minutes to the nearest beach or supermarket. You can rent bicycles for around $6 per day at the neighboring soda, which works well for getting to Puerto Viejo or Manzanilla during daylight.

We stayed at Leon and Stefan’s villa for three nights and absolutely loved our experience. The location is perfect — just a five-minute walk to a beautiful beach, and the villa itself is surrounded by lush jungle. The atmosphere is magical: everything is decorated with great taste, attention to detail, and genuine care. The arrangements of fresh flowers add a wonderful, natural beauty to the space. We saw so many animals right around the villa — even more than we saw in the national park! And the breakfasts deserve special praise. Leon put so much effort into preparing them. As a trained chef with professional experience, he truly made us feel like we were dining in a Michelin-star restaurant. We enjoyed every moment. A huge thank-you to Leon and Stefan for this amazing stay. We wholeheartedly and confidently recommend their villa!

Mar Verde Lodge is a hidden gem embedded in a beautiful jungle garden, full of wildlife. You can easily sit on your terrace, watching an Iguana climbing a tree or listen to the howler monkeys when it gets dark. Leon and Stefan are the friendly and helpful hosts of this place, who make you feel at home. The breakfast is delicious and offers a wide range of options, changing day by day.

One of the best accomodations we have ever stayed in. Very comfortable apartment, perfectly located close to the beach, own terrace with unique jungle view. Very kind host, Leon made us an outstanding breakfast every day. All in all a great experience, 100% recommended.

“Unforgettable experience and superb breakfast”

Beautiful, nicely furnished lodge surrounded by the tropical forest, so be ready to be woken up to the sound of animals in the morning. We felt connected to the nature and open shower on the big terrace was surely an interesting experience. The mosquito net above the bed is included so you feel protected even when the lodge's doors and windows are open. We were impressed by the quality of the breakfast that Leon prepared for us. Every day he cooked delicious dishes (multiple courses). Felt like a 5 star restaurant :) Leon is a very friendly and helpful host. Definitely recommended! Lodge is located walking distance to Playa Chiquita - very nice beach.

“In the middle of nature !”

The room was blended in with the tall trees of the 'jungle' - it was very special ! The decoration in the room set a unique atmosphere. Leon is a very friendly host. Breakfast was fresh and very filling. We wish we had more than 30mins in the morning to enjoy it more. Leon had great recommendations for restaurants near his place and in Puerto Viejo.

“A unique jungle experience”

Mar Verde Lodge is the dream come true of living in the jungle. It is a single cabin on stilts so you are living elevated in the midst of nature. This is enhanced by a very open space - no windows, only shutters and sliding doors - and an outdoor bathroom and of course a deck. The whole lodge is of extraordinary architecture and design and is furnished lovingly and tastefully. It is a real pleasure to spend time there. Added to that comes a breakfast that I have never experienced in my life. It cannot be described in words but it clearly has the level of haute cuisine if that would exist for breakfasts. Everything freshly made and a daily variety. Last but not least, the hosts, Stefan & Leon, are truly living hospitality. It started with WhatsApp chats when we were still on our way to make sure we find the place, continued with a warm welcome when we arrived, lots of good recommendations on what to do and where to eat, intelligent and inspiring conversations during breakfast, WhatsApp chats during the day to make sure we are fine and we even stayed in touch after we left. When you leave you have the feeling you leave friends. This was by far the best accommodation and stay we had in Costa Rica, it will be unforgotten and we wish Stefan & Leon all the best.

“Beautiful jungle stay”

The lodge was absolutely beautiful! Stefan and Leon had clearly put a lot of effort to give guests a memorable experience. The decor was just right, fitted with lovely pieces of furniture, fixtures and decorations. The jungle view balcony was definitely a key highlight and where we spent most of our time in the lodge. Our breakfasts were delicious and extremely enjoyable.

This place is heaven. If we could rate it a 20, we certainly would. Stefan and Leon are two amazingly kind and caring souls, and they will do everything to make you feel at home. The lodge is very beautiful and well designed, the outside shower is amazing and just by sitting on the balcony you will see all kinds of beautiful birds, monkeys, iguana's, squirls and more! The whole experience is just perfect if you like some peace, quiet and privacy in the middle of the jungle, near playa chiquita and punta Uva, with all confort you could wish for. And the breakfast was so so so good, we felt like we would never eat anything better ever again. Last: Stefan and Leon know what they are talking about: if they give something their stamp of approval, it will be great. We miss you Stefan and Leon!

Amazing location, great hosts, delicious breakfast and wonderful restaurants recommendations. Leon and Stefan were great so helpful even organising bikes for us and getting them delivered. This really is the best end of town Puerto veijo is quite dusty and noisy and this place is a piece of quiet paradise.

My girlfriend and I visit Puerto Viejo quite often and this is by far the best place I've stayed at. Leon's attention was superb and his breakfasts are superb. Spotless place, with great decoration and private covered parking. Locations is a few steps away from the best beaches of the zone, where annoying visitors cannot reach because they cannot park close. Place is close to restaurants, supermarkets and a bike rental business so you can move to other beaches without needing a car.
