We loved the kindness of the owners Roger and Maria and their lively son Frank. We went on some awesome tours in the rainforest with Roger, top class.

“Interesting place to stay with good food; tours not suitable for non-native Spanish speakers”

The hostel is really close to the river and to the rainforest, we even spotted small monkeys and a sloth just outside our window. The food that Maria cooked for us was tasty. It's a small hostel.

“Real Jungle Experience With A Lovely Family”

Roger and Maria are such a nice couple. Roger picked me up from the airport on his motorbike and gave me lifts into town when needed. Maria will make an evening meal for you on request. Roger knows the jungle inside out and will take you on tours not like the tourist companies. I had a great time! When I return to Puerto Maldonado I will definitely say at Isuyama Hostel again, but I do need to learn to speak Spanish first!!

We enjoyed our stay here. Although the facilities are basic, we were surrounded by nature and Maria and Roger looked after us very well. Roger is very passionate about the local wildlife and took us on some memorable trips into the jungle. Their son Frank and pet Pepe also made us feel very welcome. A highly recommended jungle experience.

“This is the real deal authentic Peruvian Amazon jungle experience!”

Would highly recommend for an authentic, immersive experience—both rich in wildlife and genuine cultural connection with a local family, not a tourist hotel. Staying here felt like becoming part of the jungle itself. We shared meals and conversations with Roger’s family and other travelers, and went on unforgettable excursions like birdwatching, piranha fishing, and caiman feeding. The family’s pet macaw stole our hearts and made every day brighter. The hostel is basic and rustic, but that’s to be expected—and honestly, it’s part of the charm. We also stayed at an expensive eco-lodge deep in the jungle, but it’s this humble place that left the deepest impression. So we stayed twice!

“Great jungle experience”

The hostel is the real jungle experience where you find a family run place. The family is very welcoming and make you feel at ease, their kindness is very rare to find. The place is modest but has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooms are well ventilated and beds are comfy with nets provided. The breakfast is included and is good as Maria cooks well asking only 10 soles per meal. There is also a small market where you can buy essentials. The family has 2 puppies and a beautiful macaw with whom we became friends. The tours Roger offers are great and very good value for money. We especially liked the sunset and the lake yacumama where we looked for Caymans. In total we stayed 9 nights and we enjoyed every moment relaxing and recharging. “Cute family ran accommodation that’s good value”

Quiet location, 1 minute walk from the river. Roger and his family were very accommodating and the tour we completed with him was good value. The meals they cooked for us were also very cheap. We loved playing with the puppies and watching his pet macaw

“We had a wonderful stay”

The location is out of town what we really enjoyed. Roger and his family are amazing and super kind. The food Maria prepared was very delicious and for a reasonable price. She also made us vegan options what we didn't expect at all. Roger offers tours which are different from the classical tours you can book with a tour operator and we enjoyed them, he knows so much about the jungle. The wifi worked well. They also offered free drinking water.

Everything: the host family (Roger, Maria and their sons are all wonderful and nice people), Pepe the resident guacamayo, the location (close to the riverside). The two tours offered by Roger are the best in town and they have been the highlight of our trip to Puerto Maldonado. Definitely recommended!

The owners made us feel at home. They took care of us and we felt like a part of the family. Our stay was magical. They offer delicious meals and the best tours.

“A wonderful stay with kind and hospitable owners”

Exceptionally kind owners. I arrived at 7 am and they made me breakfast and let me check in. The tour was amazing value at 199 sols for a boat ride, trip into the rainforest and a search for caiman. The owner’s young son also took us to the swimming spot and took us for a short night walk to see the sloths. The food was excellent; it was home cooked and just 10 sols. The hostel is by the river and is a lovely place to spend some time in nature.

“Great adventure in the middle of natire”

Roomy and cosy, surrounded by vegetation, great breakfast and the owner is also a guide who enjoys his job. We had a great time in spíte of bad weather.

Such a nice friendly place , roger and Maria couldn't do enough for us , and he is a great guide . I cut my hand and he came to the hospital with me and waited two hours and helped with everything .... What lovely people. And they helped with our last minute onward travel plans and got TWO friends to help us organise ourselves .

Roger and Frank were so helpful, friendly and accommodating! The hostel was very comfortable and in an amazing location, a proper Amazonian experience! Delicious breakfast and dinner every day, and the tour with Roger was really great and very good value for money. I highly recommend staying here ☺️

We had a wonderful time at Isuyama hostel. We felt so welcomed by the whole family, including a very friendly pup! The hostel is a short ride from town but right in the middle of nature. Roger took us out on an excursion down the river into the jungle which was brilliant. Food was fresh and delicious and we enjoyed fruit from trees growing in the garden. We wish we could have stayed longer!

The family is absolutely lovely. The place is big and spacious and from wood, in the middle of the jungle. Fran, the son, is good company, and so is Pepe, the parrot and the little dog
