I try to reserve ten scores for the exceptional (a honeymoon destination or somewhere that someone with mobility issues would be happy to stay in and just watch the world go by). This lovely roomy but cosy apartment does not quite meet this criteria - it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues in our opinion - but it deserves a ten on the basis of the very helpful and friendly host who actually came to meet us at the flat on our arrival and the very good location in terms of access to local areas. The town itself is well worth a visit but we had Interrail passes which allowed us to also visit Florence (20 mins), Siena (2 hours), Pistoia (10 mins). It would be a good base for visiting Lucca (1 hour), Pisa (90 minutes) and Viareggio (90 minutes) but we had previously decided to move on to Lucca for these later day excursions. We travelled by train (10 minutes level walk from station to apartment) so cannot comment on parking. Good supermarket (Conad) with extended opening hours a few minutes walk away in one of the main squares. (Textile museum highly recommended). Good washing machine in flat (beware some flats 'with' washing machines refer to communal machines).
