“Slice of paradise”

Lovely room called a funco. Amazing view of volcano and design on the ceiling. Breakfast was very different each day and was very tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Organised cars and guide to take us up volcano.

Perfect place to explore the Fogo volcano. Nice room, amazing stuff!

Perfect place to stay in fogo Joao and Lea are excellent hosts They found a guide ( last minute ) to climb fogo in Jan 1st Breakfast is very good with home made cakes !

Not only the rooms were amazing but the hosts were incredibly welcoming and kind with us. I even liked being without electricity or warm water as it added emotion to the experience of being concious of the privileges that we think have for granted.

The landscape is nothing short of spectacular—hardened black lava, rugged volcanic terrain, and an ever‑present view of the majestic volcano create a surreal and immersive experience. The funco structure—a traditional Cape Verdean circular house—is thoughtfully built with sustainability in mind: pallet furniture, rainwater harvesting, reused water for plants and toilets, solar panels for electricity, and solar‑heated water. Every morning, a freshly prepared breakfast by Restaurant Isabel was delivered directly to my room—sweet and savory pastries, fruit, and juice—luxurious in its simplicity. My hosts, Léa and João, were absolutely wonderful. They welcomed me warmly from the moment I arrived, with genuine kindness and a sense of caring that made me feel instantly at ease. João is a guide, ask him for hikings! I also want to highlight the friendliness of every person I met in the area—they were open, warm, and made this journey feel safe and connected. At night, I would gaze up at the stars from my cozy funco—the sky, completely free of light pollution, felt like a universe unfolding just for me.

The place is just amazing, extremely quiet. Worth the visit and the stay for at least 2 nights. Lea and Jao were extremely welcoming and helpful.

“FANTASTIC!”

EcoFunco is absolutely amazing! Lea and Joao are wonderful hosts, present from even before setting foot on the island. They helped us with transportation from and to the airport, they found us a guide to hike the volcano (Joao also is a guide) and gave us tips on things to do and trails to walk while on the island. The breakfast is excellent, abundant and varied. And they arrange it for you no matter what time you want it. The room is spacious and clean. The bed is comfortable. The whole place is peaceful and quiet and the views are simply breathtaking. If we ever go back to Fogo, we will definitely stay with Lea and Joao again!!

Beautiful rooms, amazing environment, friendliest people who run it.

Everything.The hotel is new and they're expanding.The staff very helpful and it's stays on the beggining of the Path to go walking to the little Vulcano (2h walking go and back), no need guide (trust on the advices the people who survived at least 2 Vulcano eruptions, they know what they're doing). If you want to climb to the big Vulcano ask João (the owner) how you should do.Thank you Ecofunco the Veras brothers thanks you for the hospitality.

Everything. Joao is a great host and having the possibility of being in the Chã das Caldeiras is truly an opportunity of a lifetime.

Amazing location for the Fogo volcano experience. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and helped us greatly to organize our stay and activities. Very cute private cabins. Water and energy conscious.

Paradise in the middle of nowhere. Joao and Lea are brilliant and will do their best to make your stay perfect. Airport transfers, hiking guide to Mount Fogo, restaurant suggestion, anything you need. Cottages are brand new and super comfortable.

Beautiful Funco house. Spotlessly clean. Bed comfortable. Perfect location for hiking the volcano. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Card payment accepted (+2%). Breakfast delivered night before for hiking was basic but ideal for the hike. Reasonable requirements for power and water consumption, given the location.

When you enter the volcano area you enter a different world and start to understand what those people lived at the last burst out in 2014. The EcoFunco offers a great stay using the lava stone. Lovely staff, great service and we also booked through them the airport shuttle and the guide for the escalation of the Pico. Just perfect.
