Rosa is very friendly and helpful and speaks a lot of languages, a very comfortable place, great views and great food. Safe area and great for hikes and walks out. Would benefit from having internet for longer hours of the day. Shower facilities are rudimentary but I think that is common for this area. We didn't mind and had a wonderful time.

“Unforgettable experience”

It was such an amazing experience; Rose is super friendly, we hiked with him Poco do Fogo the first time and we absolutely recommend a guide unless you really are an expert on the mountains. We also had dinner and breakfast there, which were both tasty and abundant. He speaks many languages, so probably he will also speak a bit of yours ;) they arranged also the transportation to and from Cha das Caldeiras.

Rose and his family are very genuine people and great hosts. We felt welcome from the very beginning and they made everything possible. Great accomodation (price-value, basic rooms with all you need) for discovering the Pico de Fogo and Caldeira. Rose and his brother are very knowledgeable guides and can organize amazing hikes and tours.

“Unbelievable place!”

Portela is a small village in the heart of the caldera. Ciza and Rose have built a house where a few basic but characteristic rooms face an internal place where breakfast and dinner are served. The place is simple but very clean and perfect for a few nights in an unbelievable place. You will get to know how these proud and strong people rebuilt their village after the last eruption (2014) and how they make their life there. Rose will guide you to the top of pico de fogo if you like, or he will organize a tour for you. He can recommend a wine testing close by. The wine is produced in fogo and it’s good!!! Go! You cannot regret!

I don't even know where to begin. It's and excellent place with warm, hardworking and good people. Fantastic spot to hike to the volcano. We had one of the best meals here in whole Cabo Verde, Ciza is an amazing cook and traditional dishes she prepared were just delicious. It's simple, yet generous home. Rose is an excellent guide, patiently answered all our questions. We surly will be back. Keep up a good work, you are doing great 😸 Fingers crossed the restaurant will be in place, when we will be back next time!

“Very friendly place for good money”

This family house and pension is a perfect value for money. You’re located directly below the peak of Fogo in the centre of Chã das Caldeiras so many facilities like groceries or bars are close by. Rose is an amazing local guide who will get you to the Fogo peak and also give you many valuable information for your stay not only in the crater but around the island. His wife is an amazing cook, there was different breakfast every day and the lunches and dinners were just amazing! Big portions and delightful flavours. The room itself was spacious with private bathroom and it is very quiet in the night.

“Above and beyond”

I had a fantastic stay with Ciza e Rose. I had to change my booking dates last minute due to travel arrangements gone wrong and they were very accommodating. Rose wasn't there but Ciza arranged for a different guide to take me up the volcano, and was generally extremely helpful and accommodating. The dinner was absolutely delicious, some of the best food I had in Cabo Verde, and the room was spacious, nicely decorated and comfortable. I appreciated the extra blankets because it does get cold at night!

I booked for 2 nights with breakfast included in October. It was the end of the rainy season and everyone in town was busy with renovations for the upcoming high season. It is a family business and the hosts are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Ciza is a professional, very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide and Rose is an excellent cook. When booking, I did not inform them of my dietary needs (very sorry) and they were able to accommodate me on the spot, which I appreciated very much. I decided to extend my stay for another 2 nights because I really enjoyed it and there are many things to explore. I would recommend not only staying at Ciza&Rose, but also letting them organize the hiking activities for you so that you get the most out of your vacation in Portela.

Ciza and Rosy are so kind and welcoming, and this is a wonderful place to stay in Cha! We were able to eat delicious vegetarian meals, meet other nice people staying there and hang out together on both the porch outside the building with the rooms and on the terrace outside the main house, Ciza offered to do our laundry (which we gladly accepted, what a huge help!), and Rosy organised a great guide for us as he wasn't available on the day we hiked the volcano.

Reasonable price, clean room and very welcoming and helpful host Rose. Basic but decent breakfast (I ask it to serve at 6am before the hiking Fogo, and it was there exactly at time). The wifi is available outside the house, 20 metres in front of the hotel, close to the restaurant

“Great hosts and amazing hiking experience”

Ciza & Rose's place is great! They are amazing hosts, make you feel very welcome, give you lots of advice and tips. The rooms are relatively comfy, there is no hot water but can be requested. Rose does Fogo volcano tours which is very convenient and fairly priced; you can simply arrange it with him when you arrive. He is an excellent guide, he has lots of knowledge and made the experience very interesting, fun and safe. 10/10 would recommend this stay and a hike up the volcano.

“Warm and familiar atmosphere for a solo traveler”

I traveled to ilha de fogo by myself and felt extremely welcomed by Cizz and Rose. The environnement and the staff made me feel safe, confortable and at ease. The attention to my needs (hot water for shower, pocket lunch for my trekkings, early breakfast before leaving) was outstanding, everything was taken into account and delivered efficiently. But most of all the familiar atmosphere and the friendly chats were a really important plus in the experience. Rose gave me a lot of local tips, introduced me to his sister restaurant (who also granted me vegetarian meals throughout the whole stay) and was a really good host in general. I strongly recommend spending your time here and immerse yourself in the local way of life.

An attractive room, looking out on the crater: lounges to relax on outside. Also enjoyed the meals we had here. But the best part of our stay was having Rose guide us to the lava cave. He explained so much and was very patient with our frequent stops at one stage. He also ensured that we caught early morning transport for a flight from San Filipe..
