Highly recommended I had a wonderful stay here. The room was incredibly comfortable and clean. Every morning, they served a delicious breakfast that tasted like a proper home-cooked meal. The hosts/family were exceptionally warm, welcoming, and took great care of me throughout my stay. Plus, the location is perfect and very convenient. I would definitely stay here again

Very welcoming family Arani home stay was perfect for our one night stay in Polonnaruwa. We were warmly welcomed by our host who were so helpful, getting us bikes to visit the ancient city (which is very close), they also accomodated us with early breakfast so we could catch our train the next day an sadeepa gave us a lift to the station on his Tuk Tuk Thanks again for everything!

We stayed here 1 night and it was very good. The location is perfect for visiting the Ancient City on bike or foot and also the Dam for sunset. The room was lovely and spacious, air con and hot water and WiFi. The bed was really comfy and we slept well. The breakfast was very delicious and we also had dinner here, which was also very delicious (but an added cost). We rented bicycles from the homestay for a day around the old city which was very helpful. We had a bit of a miscommunication regarding cost, but all was fine in the end.

I had such a wonderful stay at this guest house! 🌸 The hosts were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Their hospitality and kindness made a real difference throughout my visit. They were always available to help and guided me with everything I needed. One of the best parts was how much effort they put into helping me explore the area. Thanks to them, I got to visit the beautiful ancient city and also enjoy the peaceful lakeside, which were unforgettable experiences. The recommendations and arrangements they provided were so thoughtful and made my trip smooth and enjoyable.

Perfect location for getting to see the best of Polonnarua, and handy for getting a tuktuk to other places for restaurants etc. the room is simple - comfy bed (pillows were great), working AC, a sofa, good wifi, nice hot shower. No fridge, but kot a problem for us. Mosquito netting good. The breakfast was lovely, very tasty, and we were served a cold juice drink on arrival. Punja seemed to run things, he did the tuktuk tour of the city and was very accommodating and flexible (we had our own idea of what route and stops etc.). He was keen quick to offer other services, some of which we took, others we didn’t, but we didn’t feel pressured. After all, their business mode is cheap accommodation supported by services. The rest of the family was lovely too, and they keep the garden very well.

I felt very bad at this place because I was doing a tour in Sri Lanka with a local friend who work in a travel agency. When I arrived at the Arani accommodation, they asked me if I wanted a tuk-tuk to visit Polonnaruwa, and I said no because I was touring Sri Lanka with my friend and already had transportation. That night, my friend and his family dropped me off at the accommodation in their car. Just a few meters away from the house, members of the host family were waiting to confront him — they insulted him and spoke to him very rudely, telling him that he couldn’t take me to the Polonnaruwa ruins because I was their client, and that I had told them I preferred to go with them. That was a complete lie. Also, during my stay at the house, they pressured me several times to buy or consume things from them, like dinner, water, or other items. This is not a safe place to stay, because this kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable.

Friendly and helpful family. Food was lovely. Very comfortable. The ancient city tour with the host was excellent and they organised a safari tour and a driver to our next destination. Highly recommend this homestay.

Fantastic welcome from the host and his family at Arani Homestay. Stayed 2 nights and made to feel like we were part of the family. Really enjoyed his wife’s excellent cooking both nights and a wonderful spread for breakfast. The homestay also organises very reasonably priced Elephant Safaris and tuk-tuk transport. Can’t recommend this homestay enough.
