“Strongly NOT recommend this property”

I had an extremely stressful and unacceptable experience with this property, which I consider highly unprofessional. Despite having a confirmed and fully paid reservation, I was asked before arrival to pay a €200 deposit via WhatsApp from a UK phone number to a Spanish account. This is not a common or secure practice and immediately raised serious concerns about a potential scam. On arrival, I was left alone outside the property for over two hours in the evening, without access to the accommodation. The host refused to provide the keys without immediate payment of the deposit. While I was willing to pay, I needed to make sure this was not a scam, as I had serious doubts given the situation: being alone outside, receiving payment instructions via WhatsApp, and being told that I would not meet anyone for the check-in. Communication was only in English and quickly became aggressive, intimidating and disrespectful. I was alone, in an unfamiliar and isolated area, unsure whether the booking was legitimate. At some point I had no phone battery and had to rely on a neighbor to charge my phone in order to continue communicating with the host. From approximately 18:40 to 20:45, I remained outside while being under continuous pressure due to the host’s behavior over the phone, speaking to me in a very inappropriate and aggressive manner. I felt unsafe and had to contact Booking.com to seek assistance and request a cancellation. Despite this, the host explicitly refused both the cancellation and any refund, leaving me with no safe alternative. As my bank blocked the international transfer, I was forced to drive approximately 20 minutes round trip to withdraw cash and hand €200 in person to a neighbor, late on a Sunday evening. This entire situation was highly stressful and completely unacceptable for a paid reservation. The check-in process was chaotic and completely unprofessional.

Kerry is very kind, extremely helpful, and flexible. Communication was excellent. The room was very clean, cozy, and warm at the end of December. The sunny balcony offered views of both the ocean towards the island of La Gomera and the sunrise :)

“Afwul experience. Feel like beeing robbed”

The owner is a witch. Be carefull for booking ur time here. From moment 1 you are inside you are beeing watched by Kerry and her well placed cameras in and outside. If she suspects anything you will find het texting you on whatsapp telling you what she likes or doesnt like you doing. That was an unpleasant surprise. If you have a visitor over She will go nuts. Controls what time you come in and go out. The rooms are not isolated so you can hear everything that goes on in the room next to yours. The deposit you pay will be used as leverage to steal extra money from you. I moved the beds and Kerry said ahe had to pay the cleaner extra for moving back the beds. Stunning. Never ever happened to me before. I checked out a day early because it feels like you are beeing watched every moment of the day. When leaving Kerry saw me and didnt mention any issue. 2 weeks after I asked about the deposit she came with surprising stories about extra costs for cleaning. I forgot to pay a bottle of wine wich she did not mention seeing me leave or afterwards. Just when asked about my deposit she brings it up. I did comply with the extra payment because she wouldnt pay the depsosit back if I didn't. Awfull experience to be held hostage with your own money. Was it mentioned by check out I would have payed no problem. But using your deposit to force an extra payment is just stealing money. DONT BOOK

“Perfect Stay in a Wonderful Location - Junior Suite was so Luxurious!”

Our stay at Casa Mariposa Guesthouse was amazing! We stayed in Junior Suite which was just perfect. The room was fantastic: it had a comfortable super king bed with luxurious bedding. There was a small fridge which was filled with complimentary wines, soft drinks and waters. There was a crystal decanter of brandy in the room with a note saying "help yourself". The television in the room had a full comprehensive package of channels to view, including Sky Movies, Sports, TV series etc. Excellent fast Wi-Fi. The room was comfortable at night with black out blinds, quiet ceiling fan and air conditioning if needed. The dressing room was very spacious and had beach towels, extra pillows, cushions and throws to use on our private terrace. The private terrace had two lovely sun loungers and a table and chairs to relax on. The views looking towards the sea were simply stunning. There was a large blind which covered the terrace to provide some much needed shade. Our en-suite was gorgeous, with a beautiful vanity unit, mirror and a huge walk in shower unit. There was complimentary shower gel and soap and a very good hairdryer to use. I particularly liked the matching gowns. The whole of the accommodation is very tasteful and of a high standard. The general feel is very sleek but homely. The breakfast area and terrace, faces the south of the property and is warm and welcoming. There is a breakfast menu to chose from to suit your individual requirements. We chose the continental and were very satisfied with the offerings. In particular, there was homemade bread and fresh croissants. So lovely to relax in a quiet and secluded environment, listening only to the local birds. It was a great start to the day. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly. Their communication was excellent. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the local area and Tenerife as a whole. It was very useful to communicate via WhatsApp and send us recommended restaurants and places of...

“Not our cup of tea.”

The pension has a fantastic rooftop terrace with a magnificent view , both during the day and at night. The jacuzzi on the rooftop terrace was a nice experience. The bed was very comfortable. Despite being small, the room had a spacious closet. Fresh water and a tea set were provided in the room. The room and the entire property were clean. We were allowed to keep our bicycles inside, which was convenient.

Room was very clean, also bathroom. One evening the owner cooked amazing private dinner for us. Watching the sunset from the hot thub after all day hikeing was perfect! If you don't want to be in place that has conquered by tourist this is your place!

. We got to the property that said we had our own hot tub on our own balcony! And see view . Which was stated in our room ! In the advert of the room on booking .com We couldn’t even sit on the balcony and had to bend our heads to see the sea !

“Wonderful views and luxury feeling with jacuzzi!”

Kerry and Dean are lovely people with a warm heart and they want to give their guests a great experience. The jacuzzi is amazing. I highly recommend reserving it at sunset, it will be a wonderful experience. Also the village San Juan is close by, and wonderful. There are some house rules that keep everything structured such as not bringing food in and drying towels on the drying rack. Everything is sparkling clean, and if you have a question Kerry is always available on WhatsApp and happy to help where possible.

perfect ! :) ..till today I dream about Tenerife :) My stay in the Junior Suite was amazing. The room had everything I needed and was prestine clean. There were many luxuries such as mini bar, bath robes, fluffy towels, toiletries, new very confortable large double bed....amazing good bed! :) The television was excellent with numerous channels. The complimentary decanter of brandy was a lovely addition. As a cyclist, I was able to leave my bike securely. There are lots of good routes to cycle. Rent a bike in freemotion shop and very nice guide Massimo and Thomas. The facilities are excellent, I had my own private balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The views are stunning and the area is very peaceful and enables you to relax. Kerry and Dean are very good hosts and try to accommodate all your needs. They are very knowledgeable about Tenerife and neighbouring islands....and good restaurants!:) Aldo there are two sunbeds with table for morning coffee on terace, beautifull sunrise and sun sets, great views of ocean and moutains, very nice weather 28 -29 degrees, amazing Teide mountain hiking, but good to rent a car to reach each part of Tenerife. Casa Mariposa have very good position from where you can go everywhere. Overall, my stay here was excellent and I would definitely like to come back here.

To start: we carefully wrote this review and compared this with the documented info of the accommodation. What we liked: the terraces with a nice view. Quiet location. The accommodation was clean. It is an accommodation with potential: it could be nice when the host does not create an atmosphere of distrust with cameras and extra charges for almost everything you can think of. Extra charges, not mentioned in the description at booking.com: • New towels: €15 (and not permitted to use for sunbathing/spa) • New bed linen: €20 • Jaccuzi: is only included once, for subsequent times you have to pay €5 p.p., per hour. Also, the Jacuzzi may not be used from 7 pm. • Check in outside 4 and 6 pm: €25 if you want to arrive earlier/later (check in times are noted in the description, but the additional charge is not. That is mentioned in a 'welcome' message you receive by WhatsApp after booking. • (Use of Air Conditioning: €5/night - extra charge is mentioned in the description) Other information that could be corrected in the description: • 'Camera security outside': They are also inside. • 'Playa San Juan is at walking distance'. Yes, of course, you can walk, but it will take you more than an hour. To go back to the accommodation it’s 3.1 km uphill. • 'Laundry service' should be a service at additional charge, but when we asked if the washing machine could be used, this was denied. • 'Invoice is provided': an invoice of the deposit and/or accommodation was not possible. Not conform EU-law: • We are willing to present an ID with photo upon check-in, as stated in the description. However, the host insists on making a photo of this and prefers to receive it in advance. This is not required by EU law. EU-law: on need to know basis. This was the only accommodation in Spain who acted like this. We paid €95/night excl. breakfast. We have stayed in different accommodations on Tenerife with much better value for money.
