“Despite our reservation, the place was closed”

We made a reservation to Villa Goliku two and a half weeks before our planned stay (which was the 4th of March 2026). Everything went exactly like with our other bookings, we got the message from Booking.com that our reservation is confirmed. As we arrived to the villa on the day of our reservation, the gate was closed and there was no one in sight. We called the hosts and they explained that for personal reasons they had to go to Tirana and would not be able to accommodate us. These personal reasons are understandable and I wish the hosts the very best. What I don't accept is the fact that I wasn't notified beforehand. We took a taxi from Gjirokaster and the driver had already left before we found out that we weren't able to stay here. So we were left in the middle of nowhere with no knowledge of what to do next. So we started walking and fortunately, we found a great guesthouse close by, called Bujtina Peshtan Guesthouse & Camping, which was a great stay and I can't recommend it enough. I had messaged Villa Goliku the day before that we will be arriving tomorrow but got no response. That's fine as people can't be expected to check their messages all the time. The next day of our supposed stay we got a message from the manager of the site that said: "Hello thank you that you choose our hotel for your holiday! We are not open yet for the season either hotel either the restaurant 😔. We open 1 April. Sorry again maybe next time. Best regards Villa Goliku." So now this message implies that the reason that our stay was canceled was not because of personal reasons, but because the whole guesthouse is not open. So then why is it possible to make a reservation for March if you only open the 1st of April? Why not set the settings on Booking.com so that it won't be possible to make a reservation? If you're running a hotel/guesthouse business these kind of mistakes are very unprofessional.

We absolutely loved staying at Villa Goliku!! Valedina & Viktor are the most wonderful hosts, so kind and welcoming, they make you feel as if youre coming home! The fresh fruit & veg at the villa is amazing, walnuts to figs to grapes and homemade butter. The view is beautiful, great tzatziki and brekkie too. I really recommend you not to miss this place!

We have spent a wonderful week at Vila Goliku and we enjoyed it a lot! It is a quiet place high above the Vjosa river overlooking the valley and the mountains around it. Valentina and Viktor are great hosts, very welcoming and helpful. We have gotten plentz of fruits every day, including delicious figs from their garden. There was a large terrace for our daughter to play and a number of trails to explore in the area. We wholeheartly recommend it and would definately stay next time at Vila Goliku!
