“Gorgeous hotel, lovely location”

Hotel Koo was really wonderful! The location is in the old section of the town, and the buildings themselves were beautifully renovated and just gorgeous. My twin room was huge, with a separate room for the bed and a separate sitting room all with tatami. The bathroom was huge, and I loved the wooden tub. The staff were delightful, and made an extra effort to give a ton of information about the town at check-in which was lovely. Otsu was only two train stations away from Kyoto station, and the train came very regularly. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quieter but still very convenient location for exploring Kyoto and Otsu, which is itself very cute.

Clean and quiet. Well designed.

Beautiful finishings, nicely presented. Small, but functional kitchen. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with very high quality ingredients. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The staff speaks fluent English, highly recommended the street tour. Our stay, Koujiya, is clean and quiet, and there’s a parking space in front of the house (seems to be the only option with parking space)

Great layout & furnishings

Very nice room in an old Japanese townhouse, centrally located in a street with other machiya. Nice renovation. Breakfast with local ingredients was delicious and staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Nice lounge facilities.

We love the location. It was quiet clean and had beautiful decor. Staff were super helpful and kind. There was an amazing little happy hour bar set up in the entrance which was very generous and had wonderful home-made sweet treats.

“Beautiful guest house away from the tourists”

This hotel is all that it promises: beautifully designed, comfortable, with easy access to Otsu sights and eateries. Away from the more touristy parts of Japan, it felt authentic, being in a traditional residential area. The relaxing lounge with drinks and nibbles was a bonus.

I loved the room but the highlight was the staff! They were very friendly and gave me a lot of useful suggestions. The free tour I joined was also very interesting!

The Koo Hotel team really tries to regenerate Otsu the town’s importance as travel destination for travelers to Kyoto. It is really worth the stay and perfect alternative location as accommodation and still visit Kyoto. Very nice staff.

We loved our stay at hotel koo. It was the perfect combination between japanese traditional house and modern scandinave touch. We felt so at peace in this room, a perfect moment of relaxation. Bed was really confortable and the room so big. The staff were super welcoming and it’s nice to have free homemade snacks and drinks. I definitely recommend this hotel to design lovers

A very traditional Japanese ryokan. Excellent, intimate facility with extremely kind and helpful staff. Breakfast was beautifully presented. You felt completely comfortable experiencing a slice of the real Japan, but with all the modern facilities. Beautiful location near Lake Biwa in the suburbs of Kyoto .
