El tio hostel has some amazing views, its easy to catch some phenomenal sunsets and sunrises.

Such a magical place! Peaceful farm setting, beautiful nature, and waking up to birds singing every morning. There are chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, and sweet dogs — perfect for animal and nature lovers. The host is incredibly kind and welcoming. One of the most relaxing and special hostels I’ve ever stayed at. Highly recommend!

A beautiful place surrounded by mountains and volcanoes, comfortable and clean rooms, with everything you need. The host family provides an amazing welcome to their culture.

I have stayed 2 nights in El Tio and i loved it! The place where the hostal is located and the territory of it is so beautiful, it’s reminded me a lot about the village of my childhood with chickens, garden, wooden walls. Just behind the hostal begins the trails to walk and hike in the Imbabura volcano and the view from there is precious. The owner, Tio, such a nice person. Recommend you a lot to stay there! “Absolut great experience”

Great area around the house, a lot of animals like ducks, chicken, dogs… was realy nice, we absolut recomend this place for a great experience. Tio is the owner and a very nice guy he helps with every question. we also baked cornbread with Tio and his family and share a good time. Thanks Tio

A very nice hostel where you immediately feel like you are in good hands. The family is very nice and accommodating and there are many hiking opportunities in the area besides Otavalo. You also get an impression of rural life in Ecuador, which I really liked.

“Nice place for young travelers”

Nice surroundings, volcanic views!

Josè has worked hard to create a beautiful and wonderful accomodation at the back of an indigenous village. The rooms (we stayed in two different ones) are very aesthetic and the beds are comfortable with lots of blankets. It is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a coffee or read in one of the hammocks and take in the mountains around, and the garden. There is a kitchen with everything you need and a shower with lukewarm water. It is a very back to nature kind of place. Josè and his family are so warm and friendly and it was a beautiful experience to be able to stay here.

“Nice structure, some things to improve”

Good structure if you want to relax, Just minutes walking from the town centre. Nice hikes all around, starting straight from the hostel. El tio is a friendly and helpful host. He gave us some pieces of advice on what to see in the area and he lent us a small rucksack for one of our day hikes. We were assigned a nice hut, even though it was unfinished, and the overall vibe of the hostel was very pleasant.

“Primitive but nice location and kind staff”

The location was very nice and quiet with lots of surrounding nature. The people working there were helpful and kind! Beds were comfortable!

This Hostel was so special! It’s perfect to relax, enjoy the beautiful nature and get in touch with Ecuadorian people! The animals were so cute and the volunteers were very nice, helped me a lot. I will definitely come back.

“Great place to relax”

Beautiful place, lots of animals around included one pregnant Lama. If you want to help a bit, you could buy some dogfood in the shop, sometimes a little help can change a lot :) Ivan is a great manager, he knows a lot about the area, ask him about hikes around. It's 10 minutes only by bus to Otavalo. The kitchen was well equiped, even sometimes it was a bit crowdy but it was fun to use it with lot other guests.

“Remote hostel, off the path”

There is no service or internet at the actual hostel. This is nice for stepping away and exploring the beautiful property. The family running the place is all very nice and offered to prepare a beautiful, organic breakfast for $3 a person
