Overview
Come and experience the rich history of this ancient, hilltop castle and tower, located in the beautiful Castillian countryside to the west of Madrid. The Parador de Oropesa is set in the former ancestral home of the Counts of Oropesa, located in the shadow of the Sierra de Gredos mountains. Over the centuries, its Medieval cloisters and towers have accommodated aristocracy, bishops and soldiers. Nowadays, the hotel provides luxury accommodation whilst still retaining many charming, historic features. In the guestrooms, rich fabrics blend with antique-style furnishings and more modern amenities. Enjoy spectacular views over the surrounding landscape as you bathe in the outdoor swimming pool. We were met in reception very cordially by Mr Dorado who allocated a lovely room in this historic building next to the Oropesa castle. There is a lot of history to be had as this was the seat of the Alvarez family and Viceroy Toledo (Peru- fame) was associated with it. The room was as expected, very comfortable and well appointed. If you didn't want to use the grand staircase there were two lifts. The restaurant staff were highly engaging and cheerful, as well as thoughtful. This is one of the earlier Paradores and is very well-maintained despite its seniority

Huge rooms, we booked two rooms and had a whole wing to ourselves. Opulent lounges, looks like a stately home or royal palace. Free parking right outside the hotel or in the courtyard. Easy walking distance to the town square. Cafe/bar was good overlooking the castle, didn't use the restaurant. There is a good churreria just off the square if you don't fancy the hotel breakfast

“The hotel is in a historical castle with very impressive communal rooms and a great breakfast.”
My room had a stone vaulted ceiling and had great views of the surrounding countryside below the castle. The parking in the hotel courtyard was secure and free.

“A unique hotel in an old castle”
The interior of the hotel is unique being in the old castle. Wonderfull halls and spaces. The room was spacious and comfortable. Parador is located on a hill, so good views to surrounding area. The village center in short walking distance. Staying here is a fantastic experience!

Really pleased to find the pool was open (a little earlier in the season than normal). Great place to spend the afternoon with sunbeds in sun or shade around the pool or in the gardens. We were celebrating a birthday and were delighted to find that when we arrived back from our supper in the town that we had been gifted a bottle of Cava. How lovely was that! Location, views, parking and WiFi all great.
