“Lovely stay in a traditional inn.”
You get the whole house. Host was patient despite us turning up late, and communicated well through translation app. Great amenities despite the age of the building. Make sure you understand the logistics of getting there and then getting to where you are going. We finished our hike in Tsumango and you need to catch a bus to Nagiso and then train to Suhara. The train is a local train and only operates every hour. Then we were travelling to Hida which required some planning with trains and buses. It’s totally doable, but you just need to be organised.

Massive house- it felt like staying in a museum. Also some of the most comfortable futons we've had in our trip to Japan. Do be aware this place can sleep a lot of people - it was 2 of us and we felt a bit embarrassed about how big a place it was(!) Check-in was easy and lots of very useful information about the local area and Nakasendo trail was available for us to browse.

Unfortunately I was only here for one night, but it felt like a very nice traditional home. It had anything you could really need for a short term stay.

“Brilliant stay for large group walking the Nakasendo Trail.”
The host of this property met us upon our arrival even though we were walking the Nakasendo and weren't exactly sure of our arrival. He was waiting for us to hand over the key and show us around the house. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses and pots and pans which we enjoyed as we were cooking for ourselves. The large supermarket was a close distance from the house and there were umbrellas supplied which was great as it was raining. The bedding was super comfortable.

“Combine a traditional house stay with exploring post towns on the Nakasendo trail”
I loved that even though its an old traditional house, it is very well maintained and has modern facilities. Especially it was really nice that after a long day of walking in the mountains I could come back and take a hot bath.

“Historical House with modern facilities”
One of the most amazing places to stay in Japan. Traditional 160 yr old timber house with beautiful facilities. The man who manages the house was very friendly and helpful and communicated to us on his tablet. Cute little town with not many tourists. Good Taiwanese restaurant nearby.

The staff was very welcoming and very helpful, and although he spoke only Japanese he was prepared with Google translate and was very nice. Very cool home and an unique stay!

“Like staying in the house from My Neighbour Totoro”
The most authentic stay we had in Japan. Felt like living in the house from My Neighbour Totoro. I'm pretty sure we were the only tourists in the entire village. The street with traditional houses isn't as long as in other post towns, but it feels like staying among locals. Even though it seems remote, there is a big supermarket and a 24h 7-eleven within 5 minutes walking.

“Very large old tradditional house in quiet village in Kiso valley”
Old traditional house. Very large house in quiet village. Traditional furnishing. Nice to cook traditional tea in evening on coal fire in the middle of living room. 7 large bedrooms where you sleep on floor. Very nice house owner who explained how everything worked via google translate
