“Bohemian retreat by the inland sea”

Situated beside a reserve with a river and large lily pond, Ensoh provides a bohemian escape for weary travelers. You will be right at home with your friendly host Brett, who is a native English speaker, and his lovely wife. They really go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The house is very arty and full of curios. With linen sheets, feather pillows and comfy futons, the home is fully equipped with everything you need. A functional kitchen enabled some memorable family meals and the beautiful sitting area with its own Japanese garden was an added pleasure. Our whole family loved it!

We loved our stay at Ensoh. Perfect tranquil location a short cycle into Uno Port, had all that we needed. The hosts were super attentive and easy to communicate with us.

Beautiful house on the hill. Very relaxing. There were also bicycles and a path for hiking behind the house. The decoration and garden was very beautiful.

Beautiful old house, easy access to naoshima with the electric bikes provided. Bret and his lovely family welcomed us and gave us a rode back and forth to the train station. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay at Ensoh. It is a lovely place, very quiet, comfortable and nice to have some space after a couple of weeks in hotels and ryokans. We stayed four nights and used it as a base while we visited Naoshima (the electric bikes are fantastic for getting to the port and riding round the island) and Hiroshima as well as the local area. Pick up and drop off from the train or bus from Okayama by the hosts ( as well as the bikes) make it very accessible. Well worth the detour from the main tourist trail!!

Fantastic host and was super flexible when we had problems travelling due to a typhoon. If you’re looking for a corporate hotel experience this is probably not the right place for you but the house is full of charm, attention to detail and set in a beautiful location. Brett even picked us up at the train station and spent over an hour, explaining the local area and sharing his tips and experience. The possibility to use the four electric bikes to travel around the island made everything very easy. Would love to stay longer but I’ll flight awaits.

Great hosts, super hospitality, loads of space, cool design

Friendly hospitality, excellent recommendations for local activities and restaurants, plenty of room for a rainy day (we had 1, and used it as a rest day), good access to Naoshima, Okayama. Very quiet location, birds, sakura. Pick up and drop off at the station at start and finish of our trip

“A lovely peaceful arty retreat”

We had a lovely stay for a couple of days at Ensoh. The hosts were super lovely and helpful, and collected and dropped us at the station. The house itself is beautiful and filled with art everywhere you look. We felt very peaceful during our stay, and enjoyed sitting outside listening to the birds. We used the electric bikes provided to get around and to the port. Would definitely recommend.

“Loved it!!!!”

This has been the best place I stayed during my trip in Japan! The house is absolutely lovely and beautifully maintained, it makes you feel you want to spend time there, chilling, rather than going outside. Also, the owners have been amazing all the way through, offering pick up and drop off from train station and electric bike as well. I couldn’t recommend this place more..

Traditional Japanese house

The host Brett and his family greeted us very nicely upon our arriving, explained to us the facilities and gave us tips for possible activities nearby. The house itself lies on the top of a small hill, embedded in a stunning scenery. The garden is very beautiful and invites you to just sit there and relax. The house also provides a parking lot for your car (if you come with one). The house is furnished in an artful and warm way, which shows how much detail and love the host has put into it. It also provides a whole kitchen, a bathroom, two sleeping rooms and a living room. We really enjoyed our time at Ensoh, the hospitality of Brett and the nice surroundings (tip: go to onsen in Uno Port ;)!
