Overview
Hotel Spaander is located in a prime position in Volendam on the banks of the Lake Markermeer. This historical hotel dating back to 1881 has a truly authentic Dutch feel to it. Each of the 78 bedrooms have been uniquely decorated and feature authentic Dutch decor. Rooms are generously proportioned and some of them offer views over the Lake Markermeer or Volendam’s famous boulevard on the dike. The hotel’s famous restaurant offers a delightful menu featuring Volendam and Dutch specialities. Guests can sample such delights as stewed fish. Hotel Spaander also organises various music, entertainment and art events on a regular basis. Guests will love exploring the town of Volendam on foot – the traditional Dutch houses, the canals, the scenic waterfront and of course the dike itself. The historical towns of Edam and Monnickendam are close by and worth a visit.

“From Luxury Seaside Escape to a Retirement Resort Disaster”
If you visited this hotel a few years ago and return now, prepare to be extremely disappointed. We chose this hotel because we had stayed here two years in a row and loved its peaceful, luxurious atmosphere by the sea. The breakfast used to be excellent, and the staff was always welcoming and professional. Sadly, this time everything changed. The hotel felt old and neglected, and the atmosphere was completely different now it seems focused mainly on elderly all-inclusive tour groups. The Dutch manager was particularly rude and unhelpful. Our room had no proper windows, and since my partner is claustrophobic, we politely asked for a room change. For nearly four hours, the staff insisted there were no available rooms, despite the fact that we could clearly see free rooms listed both on the hotel’s official website and on Booking.com for the same night. Only after a long and exhausting argument did they finally move us.

Beautiful old hotel in a great location, directly next to the water and central in Volendam. Easy to reach by bus from Amsterdam. Comfortable beds. Spa area with pool and different saunas.

The room was big with a balcony view of the lake. The restaurant was a lovely room. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice. The location was excellent for exploring Volendam on foot and taking the boat to Marken & bus to Edam. The paintings were interesting.

We loved that you walk out the front door and you were right on the main shopping street and waterfront. The family room was very large and accommodating. We also loved the history of the hotel which you can still see original spaces as you walk through. Such a lovely place.

The location of the hotel was excellent with good access to the town thought we found the access to the car park (for which we had to pay 15 Euros - not mentioned) rather complicated. The room (with seaview), we thought, was adequate but nothing special and quite expensive though we probably paid for the location.
