We loved our breakfasts and our hosts. Our room was lovely and quiet. The Onsen on location was a real treat. It was very close to the bus stop to get to the ski resort.

Highly recommended authentic Japanese experience.

This is a Ryokan, so don’t expect chairs and tables in your room but do expect Tatami mats on the floor, with a futon to sleep on, covered by beautiful bedding. I was rather anxious about a futon on a solid floor but I should not have been. We got seven excellent nights sleep. Decor is basic and there is just a toilet and washbasin in the rooms. If you want a shower you go down to the basement and use the showers in the Japanese hot tub room. Toiletries in there were lovely quality. We had the breakfast every morning, which was excellent. Different every day, but always Japanese and beautifully presented. There was always toast and fruit available as well as Miso soup and steamed rice. We had the evening meal one night and that was also beautifully presented Japanese food and cost £15 per person! Really excellent! The high spot for us however was Mrs Shinazawa herself, a little Japanese lady who spoke little or no English but was simply lovely. Sweets on the shelf in the entrance hall, coffee as soon as we walked in, little extras such as a plate of tempura, rice balls offered every evening, as well as apples or oranges. She was great and we fell in love with her. Compared to other accommodation in Nozawa Onsen the price was good. The shuttle bus stop is 25yds away, there’s a ski store in the basement and a drying room plus a washing machine. There’s tea, coffee and chocolate plus a water boiler for you to make yourself a drink when you get back from the slopes. If you’re after a posh hotel then this place is not for you. If however you want an authentic Japanese experience, a lovely owner and good food then this is the place to stay. We would most certainly stop here again!

Simple and traditional guesthouse with friendly staff.

Fantastic guest house only a short shuttle bus from the Nagasaka Gondola. The facilities are quite basic but comfortable. Breakfasts are delicious and staff are very generous and helpful. In amongst the brilliant chaos of the slopes, Shinazawa was a very beautiful reminder of Japanese traditions.

Shinazawa has a great location. We stayed in the winter and the ski shuttle bus to the main gondola was only 50m walk to the pick up stop. Also, it is only a 10-15min walk up to the town centre where there are restaurants, bars and cute little shops. The building was warm and very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was exceptionally generous and varied and when we booked dinner it was tasty with a traditional theme. The drying room was good and the ski room had a worktable. We enjoyed the onsen which was a pretty good size. There is also a coin operated washing machine available for use. We always found the owners and staff extremely helpful and courteous. A great stay and would be happy to come back again.

Our Japanese Shinazawa Experience

We loved our authentic Japanese experience. Our room was a good size with a balcony & great view & very clean. The white linen was fresh & clean. The doona was warm & fluffy. We liked the kimono's & slippers to use. It was good to have a bathroom with bidet & handbasin. It was a very warm lodge. We loved the onsen downstairs. We enjoyed the breaky each morning. Nutritious & great variety. After skiing there were lovely riceballs to come home to for snacks. Plus wrapped lollies were always left out & extra coffee, tea etc downstairs. The staff were always nice & accommodating. The free shuttle to the gondola was right on the corner. It was an easy walk to the middle of town for dinner. We had a great experience.

The property was fantastic. A great onsen downstairs, spacious rooms and a great location. On top of the this the hosts are the nicest and most accomodating people I’ve met in a long time. We couldn’t have felt more welcome. 10/10 would love to come back here.

Lovely authentic experience

The staff were so lovely, very caring sweet people. The location is great, a 5 minute walk to town, 2 minutes to the free shuttle to the slopes and 5 minutes walk to the stop for the Nozawa Liner to Iiyama Station for the Shinkansen. The rooms and facilities are very clean and it was a really authentic ryokan style experience

Lovely accommodation option in Nozawa Onsen

The owners were so lovely. Fantastic hosts. They made us a delicious vegan breakfast every morning. Rooms were warm and comfortable. Delicious rice balls after a long day of snowboarding. Private onsen for guests that is piping hot. So relaxing. 10 mins walk to the main town area. But a shorter walk to the slopes.

4-days in 野沢溫泉

The owners are very friendly and approachable. The free shuttle bus stop is just right next to the building which makes things convenient. The facilities are very nice and neat. We enjoyed the authentic Japanese breakfast and the hot tub. They also provided the dry room for ski gears. Everyday they would make some free Japanese rice balls for hotel guests to enjoy. The overall experience was good and worth for the money. We look forward to going back again! Thank you.

Cozy, warm, hospitable, and comfortable!

Cozy Japanese ryokan located a short walk out of the heart of Nozawa Onsen town. Clean, comfortable, and lovely hospitable staff. Onsen and drying room in the basement which is perfect after a long day at the snow. Breakfast was highly nutritious and delicious, as well as the free onigiris made fresh daily. Cannot recommend enough!
