The location was great for walking to the village centre (5 min walk) and to the gondola for skiing (15 min walk). The staff were available to answer any of our questions and spoke English. We stayed late in the season and decided to eat breakfast in the village so can't comment on that. Beds were comfortable and room a great size for 2 adults and a teen. Having our own mini-kitchen was great and it came with good quality coffee pods and teas, cooking oil and vinegrette. I would definitely stay again!

Spacious well equipped clean apartment

“Exceptional apartment.”

We had the 4 bedroom apartment with 2 couples so we were spoilt for space. That said, the apartment was very well appointed with one of the best kitchen setups we have encountered in any vacation apartment. The laundry is well laid out. It is perfect for families and EACH bedroom has its own on-suite bathroom, shower and in the case of the Master Bedroom a tub too. Staff were a nice mix of expats Kiwis and Ozzies and Japanese too so English communication was simple. There is a lift too, but if this is your first time in Nozawa Onsen, be aware that the town is basically a collection of hills and slopes so getting to and from the bus station to the apartment will require some steepish ascents and descents on concrete and gravel sections.

Friendly staff, beautiful facility

Outstanding Design! Super comfortable room and an amazing bed! The Restaurant in the house is led by a very welcoming Australian Gentleman and his wife - food and sweets can be recommended! The Onsen town is lovely and very alive for rural japan - even in the summer!

Such a gorgeous place. We had great views of the mountains too from the windows. The kitchen is well equipped. Staff is the best - so helpful and prompt in their responses. We were there for 4 days (2 adults, 2 kids) and we also enjoyed in the family private onsen

“Amazing accomodation!”

Modern renovation of a traditional ryokan - Japanese chic with lots of added facilities that would make a longer stay enjoyable (mini kitchen, comfy bed on tatami, communal lounge/cinema room). Staff were friendly and take an interest in the guests. We were truly impressed.

Spotless clean, well equipped kitchen, great hot pools on site plus a public onsen two steps away, lovely and helpful English speaking staff, delicious pastries at the cafe, very quiet (although we didn’t have any neighbours during our stay), perfect location to see some stuff in the area within an hour drive, free laundry facility, very comfortable beds. In short, we had an amazing stay and will gladly come back. This is a very well run property.

The room is incredibly cozy, modern and clean, elevated with an amazing view. Plenty of space with excellent amenities. Very nice cafe just downstairs as well as very helpful and friendly staff. Location is awesome too, walking distance to literally everywhere

“Cosy hotel with a beautiful private onsen!”

Kawamotoya is a beautiful hotel nestled in the heart of Nozawa Onsen. Due to an injury I sustained, I needed to move my trip out by 2 months - the staff happily assisted with this. On that note, that staff were excellent - always happy to help out and provide tips and pointers regarding things to do. Breakfast at Harding's cafe was good - the chef's happily swapped out bacon from the dishes and replaced it with salmon to assist with dietary requirements. Note that Kawamotoya has 2 private onsen's which are open 24 hours. This is what truly makes the stay special. I know that Japanese cultures values public bathing, but as a muslim where modesty is key, a private onsen allows one to still enjoy the experience without having to worry about any values being comprimised. Additional items we enjoyed: - The rooms were spacious and well equipped - The washing machines and dryers were free to use during the green season
