“Book It!”

My husband and I loved our stay here. Only a 2 minute walk to the lift and 10 minute walk to the center of the village with lots of restaurants. We were provided with the traditional futon beds which was an interesting and not an all together uncomfortable experience. The room had a toilet and sink, but the showers were public by gender on a different floor (didn’t love that but we’re American and not used to it). The free breakfast is exceptional and the staff is oh so kind and helpful. We would stay here again.

Good location. Friendly & accomodating staff. Clean and comfortable ryokan to stay at. And I enjoyed the different freshly made breakfast each morning. I would happily stay at Berg Marukaneya again in the future.

“Great stay, very authentic and cosy, easy lift access and good value!”

Location was better than expected. Ski rental shop just opposite. Only a short walk up a hill each day to jump on the furthest ski lift to then access the whole resort. Easy ski back each day also. Could buy discounted lift tickets from the hotel each day. Breakfast supplied each day was plentiful and a good mix of Japanese and western food. Bought dinner a couple of times which was lovely & authentic. Heated ski room to store boots, skis, helmets and wet clothing etc. Very quiet between the rooms. Distance from the main centre of Nozawa was both a plus and a negative - further to walk to the centre but also a good distance away from the majority of street noise.

Convenient location and great breakfasts

Breakfast was great, as was dinner (extra cost). Staff were very accomodating. Nice to have an onsen on site. Drying room was great to dry things overnight. Location very close to the Gondola link chair and easy walk to town. Great value.

Very well run Ryokan. Near lifts. Brekky was a perfect add on to this stay each day.

Amazing 4-night stay at Berg Marukaneya! The half-board meals were fantastic—super delicious and very generous, both in the morning and evening. The room was comfortable, and the location was perfect, just a short walk from the ski lift and slopes. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, even thinking flexibly and creatively to help us extend our stay by two extra nights at the last minute. And as a bonus, we were even offered a free ride to the bus station. Highly recommended! BTW, the ski and snowboard rental across the street was also great!

“Helpful and friendly staff, convenient location.”

The Location of this ryokan was very convenient for skiing. There is a ski rental shop opposite and its merely a 2-3 minute walk to the lifts. Breakfast was delicious and loved that there was an onsen, albeit a bit small, but did the trick!

“pleasent and convinient”

We are a family of three (two adults and one child), and while the space is a bit small, it was sufficient for us since we spent most of our day at the ski resort or outdoors. The host provided plenty of hangers, which were very convenient for hanging our ski gear. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent, with generous portions. The owner was incredibly kind and even picked us up from the station, saving us from having to carry our luggage to the accommodation. The rental shop, conveniently located just across from the hostel, had all the necessary equipment available for rent, which was very family-friendly and especially helpful for those traveling with children. We used the ski resort’s free shuttle bus to go back and forth, which was very convenient. The pick-up point was at F Meat Shop, and the drop-off point was at C Second Parking Lot. I highly recommend visiting the onsen bathhouse just a 2-minute walk away in the evening. It was quiet, uncrowded, and a wonderful way to relax.

“Friendly family-run hotel with great location”

The very friendly and accommodating staff make this place special. we arrived at 3am in the middle of a snow storm and the manager waited up for us. He also offered to drive us to the bus station very early when we departed (in another snow storm) when no taxis were available. The property is well located for several ski lifts and easy access to the free bus service around town. you can also walk back to this hotel if you don’t have your skis and boots to lug. it’s all downhill. not many places to eat very close by except for 1-2 places that require reservations.

“Exceeded expectations!”

Excellent traditional breakfast perfect to fuel a morning on the slopes. Host was excellent and very accommodating even when our dates changed slightly. I was at first hesitant about shared bathing facilities but didn’t need to be. Super clean, quiet and incredible free Onsen in the area I found I didn’t miss having a shower in the room. 2 minute walk to the nearest chairlift and ski rental across the road. Brilliant restaurants on your doorstep and approx 10-15 min walk into the main part of the town for bars etc. Dinner at the hotel also excellent!

Food was served with good variety

“A delightful and friendly stay with a piping hot Onsen.”

Nothing was too much trouble. Sato and his staff were very accomodating and their attention to detail was exceptional. The Onsen was delightful, particularly if you visited outside of busier periods. The ski shuttle bus was regular and one minute’s walk from the hotel. There was also a chairlift practically on the doorstep. Ski rental was a few steps away and lift passes could be organised at the hotel. A delightful stay that included breakfast each morning and a lift from the hotel to the bus station when we left.

“Great place to stay for family”

Owner was very helpful giving us a lift with bags to the bus stop. Also very understanding as our little one was sick when we arrived and helped replace necessary sheets etc.

A wonderful traditional guesthouse with futon bedding and a small onsen for communal bathing (standard in Nozawa). It was in the quieter part of town, 10 minutes walk to the main street of restaurants. The staff were lovely and we had the half board which was a real treat - very tasty dinners with a mini hot pot type portion every night. Short walk to the nearest lift. Highly recommend
