“Avoid at All Costs: Novalja Apartments Ruined Our Vacation”

An agency is in charge of the reservations, but the apartments are actually owned by a family living on the ground floor of the same building. From the outset, they were quite unpleasant, stating they expected no noise whatsoever, which isn't ideal considering Novalja's reputation as a "party island." We were there for the Sonus festival in August. Our group of 8 booked 2 apartments for 5 days. Every evening around 9 pm, they would shout at us to be quiet and threaten to call the police, even though we were simply chatting on the apartment terrace with music playing softly from a small portable speaker. There was no shouting or loud music on our part, and it certainly wasn't late at night. One day, 2 friends came in front of the apartments to drop off their bags for the day (they never entered the property). A man, who seemed to be the landlord's son, became extremely aggressive, almost physically attacking us. He put his hands on some of us and threatened violence. The situation could have escalated dramatically had we not remained calm, as this man was clearly dangerous. We also noticed the landlords entering our apartments during the day while we were out. Regarding the apartment itself, it had only the bare minimum amenities (no iron or ironing board, no hairdryer, etc.). The listing mentioned sofa beds, but they were just couches with blankets. If you're more than 4 people in one apartment, be aware that someone will have very uncomfortable nights. They seem to intentionally exaggerate the apartment's capacity. Air conditioning is limited to the living rooms, leaving the bedrooms unbearably hot at night and sleep elusive. Overall, we strongly advise against renting this place if you're a group of friends coming to Novalja. The "affordable" price isn't worth the hassle with the landlords or the poor quality of the accommodation. You can find plenty of better and SAFER options.
