The facilities like Spa , Pool, Onsen and Rooms fully renovated in 2024. Huge Pool, Spa, Onsen and Sauna areas. The Buffet dinner was also fantastic with a vast array of Japanese food.

The Onsen Is very relaxing the hotel is near the centre and has a bus stop in front of it. The atmosphere gives ancient Japan vibes.

Old decor/hotel past its heyday and bugs in room but clean - lovely staff, ok for a night or 2.

Old hotel past its heyday, dated decor and bugs in room - lovely staff that are attentive and pleasant, clean rooms but you feel this is a slow sink titanic.

1 night stay in spa resort town

Traditional inn in a spa town. The outdoor onsen listening to the river was very cool. Staff were all very helpful. Felt like stepping back in time. Easy walk to town and trails. Japanese style room was good, beds comfy. Tea facilities and cold water in room were a nice touch.

best stay, would want to go again.

I got a lot of dietary wishes, I even forgot to mention a few. The cook and staff are amazing, they adapted the meals so that I could eat without any worries. The meals are huge. After a meal and a trip to their onsen, I would fall asleep fast. They laid out a double futon (ni mai) and it was fantastic. From all places in Japan where we slept (hotels, AirBnBs) this was the most comfortable place to sleep. There's enough to do, especially if you like nature. We had about half a meter's snow at the end of March. I'd love to go to this ryokan again. Some say this is an old and dated ryokan, that's true, but we saw that as a plus. It's like you're teleported to the past. And the staff really makes up for it.

This was our second stay, we came about 10 years ago and when I was thinking where in Japan I would like to spend my 70th birthday, this was an obvious choice. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, just as remembered, and re-living the whole experience was a lot of fun. Physically the hotel has deteriorated somewhat, renovation look overdue, but overall the stay was great.
