We had a wonderful stay at Hoshino Yado Ryokan. The kaiseki dinner was exceptional - every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Breakfast was equally impressive, with a great variety of carefully prepared dishes that made for a perfect start to the day. The private onsen was fantastic, providing a relaxing and peaceful experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and professional throughout our stay, making us feel genuinely cared for. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we would happily stay here again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a traditional ryokan experience with outstanding food and hospitality.

“Wonderful, traditional stay with amazing food”

Fantastic traditional Ryoken with a restaurant so you don't have to eat in your room. We (2 couples) were given a private room and served the most amazing dinner and breakfasts. The room are spacious and clean but watch out if you prefer a private bathroom. If not, you can you us the Onsen which is great. The staff were super helpful and the free transfer bus to and from Nikko station fantastic.

It has a great location, very very close to world heritage area. Staff was very helpful. Private onsen was really clean. Rooms were spacious and futons were comfortable.

The location is absolutely amazing. Very central to most attractions and close to the much needed bus stops.

Our stay was great. The staff were kind, professional, and always helpful. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented and delicious, offering a perfect taste of traditional Japanese cuisine. We also loved the experience of staying in a Japanese-style room, which made our stay even more special and authentic.

A beautiful, quiet hotel with delicious food, in a superb location.

“A ryokan with excellent service and all the facilities you could need”

Everything was just so practical. The hotel offers a shuttle service from the two railway stations in Nikko, and they were even able to come pick me up out of schedule. The hotel is very close to the temples and shrines in Nikko, so it was easy to reach them on foot. Dinner was a very pleasant experience, and the menu was adjusted to the dietary needs I had communicated in advance. The onsen (thermal bath) was mostly empty, so I usually had it all for myself. Most staff were able to communicate in English.

The staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive. They made an extra effort to help us find food and attractions and feel comfortable in our native English tongue. We stayed in the Hourai suite, which was huge and beautifully maintained. Highly recommend to travellers to Nikko.

Amazing rooms with traditional style: futons, low table, chairs with nice view. Incredible onsen bath experience (you can reserve a private bath). Incredible breakfast (Japanese and western style)
