Excellent dinners - best food we had in Japan! (And that’s saying something, as all the food is amazing). Very warm and welcoming hosts. Location was good for exploring local historical sites and getting the bus up to the mountains. Room was huge and comfortable. Private onsen was nice.

Facilities like the onsen was very private and enjoyable to use. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. As it is a small family ran hotel (less than 12 rooms or so), everything felt very personal. Included the board for breakfast(8am) and dinner(6pm), which was some of the best food I had in Japan. Definitely the best experienxe i had in Japan over my last 4-5 trips to Japan. The meals also almost always include some Nikko speciality such as their Tochigi wagyu beef steak, Yuba (Soybean curd skin) and Strawberry!

The hosts are so lovely and welcoming, they went above and beyond to help us out including a huge meal when we arrived quite late, plus a packed lunch and a ride to the train station when we left. The room was very big and the private onsens were wonderful after a long day walking in the mountains. There is a bus stop very close which is super handy.

We had the best stay at Morinouta. We especially loved how caring was the staff. They recommended us where to go, where to eat, they cooked really delicious dinner for us, gave us small snack and took us to the train station when raining. We also highly recommend to have a dinner and breakfast there because the food was outstanding made from local products. We tasted a lot of new dishes and flavors which we really enjoyed. Last but not least both Onsens were really pleasant and relaxed experience. We would definitely stay at this place again.

The property was very well maintained with a lovely charm. The onsen was excellent as well as the amenities.

I am leaving Nikko in an hour, after spending two beautiful days here. Staying at Mori no Uta was a joy for me: everything has been wonderful, the Onsen, the meals, the company. I felt really welcomed by the staff. The most precious gift I will bring with me are their smiles. I will be back one day.

Breakfast and Dinner were amazing ingredient wise and taste wise. Some of the best food I have had in Japan here. The staff are super friendly and its a small and cosy hotel so you really get a lot of attention and detail. Each meal you get several "courses" so it really feels like a premium meal. The onsen is private as well so thats nice for an after dinner soak. Rooms are large as well. Overall the rooms and onsen is great but what made the stay memorable was the food, alcohol and the service. Definitely will recommend this place if you are at Nikko for a relaxing trip.

Mori no Uta is a delightful family run place with extremely friendly hosts. The interior has a very well kept 1970s vibe. There are two well maintained onsen baths that you can use privately or with you partner/family, and I had no problem accessing them exactly when I wanted. Breakfast and dinner are available on request, and I highly recommend booking one or both of them, as they are excellent. Honestly, the standard of cooking is very very good and they use local ingredients and wagyu beef. When I checked out, the host offered me a lift to the station - an unexpected bonus.

Structure is a bit old, but the dinner was incredible and the owners are fantastic. 10 ❤️

“Incredible hosts, went above and beyond!”

The host is probably the friendliest person I’ve ever met, she made me the cutest packed lunch every single day during my stay without even asking! The onsen is just incredible, the room is massive. You can really tell they want to go above and beyond. I even saw some reviews saying the road is loud (which I didn’t think it was) and she supplied you with eye masks and ear plugs just for that reason.

“Confortable with great hosts”

The hosts are friendly and go out of their way to help and to make sure you are having a pleasant stay. They got us umbrellas on a rainy day, a map of the historic trails around town and the most amazing breakfast. We spent 3 nights and chose Japanese breakfast for all days; you can also choose western breakfast if you wish so. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the sunroom is ideal for a restful time with tea. There are two onsens on the property and we enjoyed soaking after a long day hike. The location is perfect, not too close to the touristic town and next to the bus stop (14), it is so easy to catch the bus to the city and to the mountain and lake too. We had a perfect stay.
