Very relaxing stay. Food was great, as was the onsen.

The rooms were spacious, beautifully styled, and had great futons.

A charming hotel with traditional and modern touches in an absolutely stunning location. The onsen is a wonderful way to spend your time. The meal we had in the restaurant was the best of our whole trip! The drinks on offer in the lobby really helped make this a relaxing place to stay.

all was perfect: diner, breakfast, onsen and private sauna (all was really clean)

It was one of the best places I’ve been to I. Japan where I can forget about everything and just relax.

“Peaceful stay in nature”

The hotel is by a beautiful lake, rooms were spacious and some have an private outdoor onsen. We saw monkeys from the terrace. Make sure to book the shuttle bus beforehand if you’re not driving.

“Far out hotel ideal for hiking”

A nice family resort back in it's time with large indoor and outdoor onsen. It's surrounded by forest and a large lake, easy hike (or bus) to Yumoto, then easy hike back to the hotel through Senjogahara Marshland and Ryuzu Cascades. We saw monkeys and deer on the way back. Make sure to get to Ryuzu no Chaya before 4pm which is a cafe next to the Ryuzu Cascades as it closes at 5pm. Full breakfast and dinner included with great self service sake (extra fee). On Google Maps the hotel is "Oku Nikko Hotel Shikisai" and the bus stop is No. 33. If you walk directly down the hill at the bus stop you can enjoy the lake and see fishermen there. The in-room spa fills quickly and is a beautiful soak after a long day. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful allowing us early check-in and arranged bus transfer to Nikko JR Station. Check their timetable for each destination as it's once a day.

This is an older hotel that has not been renovated in a while. The rooms are spacious, mine even had a look at the lake. The cleaning staff were absolutely amazing, the reception staff not. They were not interested in guests. Most guests were Japanese. The onsen was really nice, but also dated. When I booked I let the hotel know that I’m vegetarian, but only received standard messages that it was too short notice to take that into consideration. In the end they were able to cater vegetarian meals to me, which was amazing. I did not really know what I was eating most of the time, as the staff spoke almost no English and I don’t speak Japanese, so it was always a bit of a surprise. The location is a bit off, there is a bus that runs and also connects to the train station. Be prepared to walk and you will have a great time.
