Had a really relaxing few days at Guesthouse Vertoef. The lobby and shared spaces are very laid back and welcoming — it feels comfortable straight away. The room was calm and minimal, with everything there for a reason. I especially liked the old-fashioned kettle and hot plate — making coffee in the morning was a nice change from the usual hotel setup. Nijmegen itself is full of character, and Vertoef is a great base for exploring. It’s right across from the central station, which makes getting around very easy. I’ll definitely stay here again next time I’m in the city.

Very much disappointed in how they treat customers at Guesthouse Vertoef. I went to Nijmegen at the end of Nov 2025 for an event with quite an intense programme. I’m a light sleeper, and it was very important for me to be able to get a good night’s rest. I booked a room with an extended cancellation option, because I saw that Guesthouse Vertoef is located at a busy intersection. I texted them to ask if they could reserve a quite room for me, which they confirmed. Had they not, I would have cancelled the reservation. During check-in I enquired if the room that I was getting (306) was quiet, as requested earlier. The receptionist confirmed it was. I was in the room only briefly during the day, and I did not think I had to check if the room was quiet indeed, after two confirmations from the hotel staff. When I returned to the room in the evening, it turned out to be not quite at all. I could hear the heavy traffic, even with my earplugs in. The reception was already closed, so I could not ask for a change. In the morning I complained to the receptionist, but he could not do anything and asked me to contact the info email address. I did that, asking for a partial refund for my stay. Instead, I was offered a discount for a future stay. I am not planning to stay in Nijmegen in the coming years, and should I, I’d definitely avoid Guesthouse Vertoef because of the poor experience I’ve had with them. I explained this via email and asked if they could offer me another compensation, one that I could actually make use of. They say they could not. I do not think good hotels treat their customers like this. Once you have paid for your stay, Guesthouse Vertoef just doesn’t seem to care anymore. Because of this attitude, I’d recommend everyone to avoid this place.
