Situated just 1 block from Washington Square in Newport, Rhode Island city centre, this historic inn is a federal-style building that was once the Newport county jail and police station. Jailhouse Inn is within walking distance of restaurants, fine dining and entertainment. The White Horse Tavern, New England's oldest tavern and now a 5-star restaurant, is right across the street. The Cliff Walk, beaches and Ocean Drive are 2.3 km away. Built for the city in 1772, the Jailhouse Inn features a free continental breakfast every morning. Tea and fresh-baked cookies are served every afternoon for guests to enjoy while watching the bustling Marlborough Street.

“Comfortable and in great location.”
Liked the history of the building. References to its past life were tastefully done. Breakfast was perfectly adequate and dining room spotless. Afternoon cookies and endless tea and coffee much appreciated! Outside covered porch area was lovely to sit on.

“Historical Hotel”
A beautiful historic building. The room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was ok. Location ideal for exploring Newport. Afternoon Cookies were a nice touch. Also, eco friendly, no servicing of room unless requested. Friendly staff.

The location of the Jailhouse Inn was just perfect. It was very easy walking distance to the wharfs, restaurants, shops and bars. The breakfast was good - there was a nice variety each morning, plus coffee and freshly baked cookies all day long! The staff were super helpful as well as courteous and friendly. I would definitely recommend this location!

“Welcoming stay with helpful and friendly staff”
The staff were incredibly helpful in making our stay welcoming and comfortable. Their local knowledge for things to see and places to eat were top notch. The beds were very comfortable and our room very spacious. The continental breakfast was very good; the coffee was plentiful and fresh strawberries and blueberries were delicious. We also enjoyed the home baked cookies in the afternoon.

Location is excellent. Walking distance to restaurants and shops and Bowens Wharf. The staff was extremely kind and helpful with any questions we had about the area. Breakfast was great. Everything was fresh and a nice variety to choose from. I will stay here again.
