Overview
We are a youth hostel, a destination for travellers between the ages of 18 and 45 years old. As this is a destination for international guests and Australian travellers interstate we do not accept anyone from the Newcastle area. Please ensure you have valid photo identification for your check in. Just a 5-minute drive from Bar Beach, Backpackers an outdoor pool and BBQ facilities. All rooms include access to shared kitchen and lounge facilities. Newcastle Backpackers is a 5-minute walk from Hamilton Bus Depot and a 10-minute walk from Beaumont Street, which offers cafes, restaurants and shops. The Hunter Valley is a 1-hour drive away. The property offers dormitory style and private rooms. All rooms are fan cooled and have linen included. All have access to shared bathroom and ironing facilities. Guests enjoy free access to an entertainment area, including a billiards table. The swimming pool is perfect for cooling off after a hard days backpacking.

“A most surprising charming social maze of corridors in Newcastle”
The toilets were clean and came with air fresheners so you don’t have to smell the deathly odours of previous users. Common spaces were kept tidy and clean as much as possible even if they were quite tight. I do wish there was a better way to keep people more accountable for their usage and abusage of amenities though especially the cutlery which is quite possibly the most disorganised pick n mix of forks spoon knives screwdrivers chopsticks sewing needles and whatever else is in there. Cameras help but possibly a higher shelf closer to eye level may help people who are cutlery-blind to sort their shit out better. Beds were ok, better in the cold than in the heat. Some were creakier than others and it depends on whether there’s a Snorlax /common enemy in the room. Swimming pool is very pretty and inviting. Washing area looks like a war bunker. I found having 3 different ways to walk back to my room which was only like 8 metres away very charming and convenient to avoid people who were annoying.

“I would not stay again”
The WiFi was good in common areas. The kitchen is spacious. The TV has a few streaming services. The showers are pretty good. Comfy bed. The socket has USB ports.

Girl told me i was too old to stay in front of another guest. There should be something to stop the booking , a pop up to confirm the age restriction.
