Overview
Featuring relaxing massages and public baths, Ryokan Asukasou at the entrancne of Nara park is just a 3-minute walk from Nara’s Kofuku Temple. Rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring, a flat-screen TV and private bathroom. Guests can choose a room with Western beds or a room with Japanese futons. All rooms are air-conditioned and feature pleasant woodwork. Fresh green tea and cable TV are on offer. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Train Station and 1.5 km from JR Nara Train Station. Todai-ji Temple is a 20-minute walk. Bicycles can be rented. A reservable family bath is available for a fee, and guests can enjoy singing karaoke. Free Wi-Fi is provided in the lobby. A Japanese multi-course (kaiseki) dinner is served at Kachomon Restaurant, or in the Japanese-style guest rooms. Guests in the Western-style rooms can choose to upgrade their dinner to include tempra and charcoal grill dishes at an extra charge. The hotel has a coffee lounge on the first floor.

“PERFECT FOR FAMILY!!”
Service is spectacular! Location is a little hard to find at the start but once you locate it , it’s walking distance from restaurants, attractions and situated at back of the Nara park. Room is BIG and NEW - definitely value for money

“Simply wonderful”
This is a wonderful ryokan, although structured as a modern hotel. Great location near the major sites and shopping district of Nara. Excellent staff and very comfortable accommodation, spotlessly clean even by Japanese standards. We had a very large room. The bedding is excellent. The bathroom is excellent. The onsen is free and very good. Free car parking. The staff were helpful, extremely polite and attentive. Best in Japan of the 7 places we stayed and we stayed in some nice places. Possibly the best in Japan for the price full stop.

“Relaxing and kid-friendly ryokan”
Lovely location on the edge of Nara city and the park. Not the same as staying at a completely rural ryokan of course, but very convenient especially with kids. Food was amazing. It was great to also have a separate menu for the kids. I’ve added photos of the kids food for both nights for reference as I didn’t find this elsewhere when I was researching. Very relaxing - good lounge area with a massage chair. The baths are great, but not a natural spring. There are instructions for using the bath and for putting on the yukata are on the TV. We loved the Japanese style room - definitely part of the experience for us :) Small note on the area in general - it’s worth exploring past the beaten track in the park - we had a lovely walk through the forest there.

“A highlight of our family trip”
Everything about this stay was idyllic for me, my wife and 7 year old daughter. Nara is a charming town within itself and I could t recommend this hotel highly enough - 11/10 for a genuinely beautiful experience. Stayed for 2 nights and wished we had stayed a week. The onsen is also an added bonus

“Peaceful Site with walkable access to hotspots”
Superb service and friendly staff. They were very helpful with our luggage delivery to the next city! Great location, walkable distance to Nara Park, Nara Machi and Kintetsu Station. Deers at doorstep :)

“Incredible. A must stay whilst in Japan.”
What an incredible stay. From the moment you walk in the staff, decor, layout is perfect. A magical experience from start to finish. The staff were so polite and informative. The room was exceptional and a real snap shot into traditional Japanese style. The facilities like the onsen were perfect. So clean and well presented. Very quiet and peaceful with great views. The traditional breakfast was delightful and a real joy. One of the best experiences ever. Amazing.

“Beautiful. The perfect place to stay in Nara.”
Everything. We booked 2 rooms, one for our 2 adult kids and one for us with the beautiful big bath. We knew the pagoda was being fixed and couldn’t be seen and that was fine. The staff went above and beyond for us. We celebrated our 30 year Wedding Anniversary and they even organised a cake for us (we paid for it but it was beautiful). The place is super close to everything and it was just so nice. They gave us water and treats each day and looked after us like we were special. I will definitely be back.
