“Fabulous place to stay in Nara.”
The hosts are very kind. The location is excellent. The value is great. I slept very well. It's quiet. Filtered water and iced barley tea are provided, along with hot tea and coffee. I didn't get the breakfast, but it looked delicious.

Amazing value for money, the host was welcoming and the accommodation was not too crowded so there was access to the shower and other facilities. Incredibly close to the deer park (less than 10 minute walk) but a bit far from the closest convenience store I could find.

“Comfy, clean and calm.”
This was one of the best accommodation experiences I’ve had in Japan. It felt like a boutique hotel experience even though I’ve stayed in a dormitory the best was very comfortable and the house was overall very very clean. It was cleaned everyday. The lovely lady who runs the house tries to be helpful with everything, I was a bit sick when I arrived there and left it feeling amazing and energetic for the rest of my trip. I’ll stay there again if Inever go to Nara and recommend it the same to everyone 🩷🌸

The location is ideal and enabled us to get to the park within ten minutes by foot. The house is cozy, clean and the owners are very thoughtful - they advised us various itineraries in the area to hike. The price is unbeatable for such a qualitative stay.

“Good one time experience to stay in Japanese style house”
Room space for 3 person is bigger than the hotel of the same price range. There is a balcony to bask in the sunlight in the afternoon. There is small living room to use as shared space, and tea, milk and hot water. Clean bathroom and toilet with hot water. Strong wifi to use.

Traditional Stay in Nara – Guesthouse Tamara is a Hidden Gem! I had the most incredible stay at Guesthouse Tamara during my one night in Nara. This beautiful traditional Japanese house truly immerses you in an authentic experience, making it a highlight of my trip. The host was the sweetest person, incredibly kind and welcoming. She went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay, offering free amenities like mineral water, tea, and even heating pads—perfect for chilly nights. The rooms were immaculately clean, cozy, and had a warm, traditional ambiance. One of the standout features was the traditional Japanese bath, which was such a relaxing and memorable experience. Breakfast was available for an additional cost, and it was absolutely worth it! If you’re visiting Nara and want to experience true Japanese hospitality in a serene setting, I highly recommend Guesthouse Tamara. I only wish I had stayed longer!

“Peaceful, comfortable, traditional Japanese house, in the old quarter and close to temples, unforgettable delicious home”
Very quiet and peaceful, fantastic location for discovering the old part of town on foot, host-cooked Japanese breakfasts were fabulous, delicious and healthy. We had the double tatami room which was spacious. Sharing the bathroom(s) and toilet(s) was totally fine for us, never any queues, very clean. Hosts were friendly and also respected our privacy.

“Comfortable stay in ideal location”
The guesthouse was homey and comfortable. There is a communal table to eat dinner, breakfast etc rather than any lounging areas. I opted in for Junko's delicious breakfast and it was excellent. The house was located very near the Nara Hotel and Naramachi. It was atmospheric and away from the crowds.
