“A lovely old Ryokan perfect for hiking the Nakasendo trail”

A beautiful old ryokan. You get your own little house set in the lovely peaceful gardens. The Onsen is lovely and we were given access to a private one for the second day of our stay. The staff are so helpful and provide transport to and from the train station and took us to Magome too so we could hike the Nakasendo trail. The food is delicious but very Japanese

This was a dream stay. Perfect for a full Japanese culture experience. The meals were way too much for us to consume and super delicious. The hotel shuttle bus to the city was such a privilege. The host and all the staff were unbelievable, we will def be back

liked the first hand experience of staying in a 400 year old Japanese ryokan. nothing can bit that history of the old wooden house we stayed. loved that nature surrounds the ryokan. So many trees, beautiful garden, birds chirping, calm and serene atmosphere the dinner and breakfast was superb and we had our personal butler like service. keisaki Japanese food served to perfection TRANSPORTATION was great. a coaster pickup from nakatsugawa station and the coaster also dropped us off to nakasendo trail magome the next day. the property is very well located, central yet in a very quiet place- it has plenty of charme, love the traditional ryokan style, yet very well maintained. you can see trees from the windows and it’s super peaceful. the staff is super kind and helpful and the food is outstanding! the chef cooks with only local and seasonal ingredients- everything delicious!

This was the most amazing Ryokan you can imagine. Houses of 400 years old, in an amazing garden, with an onsen (shared) you can use - you cannot imagine in what kind of paradise this ryokan is located. Highlight of our trip.

We love how quiet the location is. The autumn leaves were also amazing to see. The chef and the staff were very nice and made us feel very comfortable. The food was exquisite and very memorable. They also made the place cost and warm as the temperature gets colder.

Nagataki was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The hotel arranged a taxi service from the station, which was incredibly helpful and made our arrival completely stress-free. The moment we stepped onto the property, we felt like we had traveled back in time. The houses are beautifully preserved and full of character, with details that make you slow down and appreciate the craftsmanship. Walking through the grounds felt like being inside a living piece of history, yet everything was impeccably maintained and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were absolutely incredible. Each meal was prepared with so much care, and every dish felt thoughtful and balanced. It was one of those rare dining experiences where you’re reminded of how special traditional Japanese cuisine can be when done with genuine skill and passion. What truly made our stay exceptional, though, was the service. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. They made us feel welcomed in a way that felt heartfelt rather than formal, and their hospitality elevated the entire stay. Beautiful, historic, traditional accommodation surrounded by gardens, staying in individual houses with their own dining room and bathroom. Just stunningly authentic. There was a shuttle bus to Nakatsugawa station in the morning. Dinner and breakfast are included and served in you own traditional villa. An experience from start to finish. Beautiful food, plentiful and delicious. Stunning place!

The property is located a little away from the centre of Nakatsugawa but it’s the perfect location. Your small home is nestled amongst the Japanese maple trees and can hear the river rushing below. The house itself is over a 100 years old but with a new bathroom facility which is convenient and comfortable. The staff go above and beyond in terms of their service, and the food is exceptional. They provide a shuttle service which is very helpful and convenient as well. We would say this is one of our favourite places we stayed at in Japan and will most definitely return!
