“Incredible hotel with a memorable experience”
This is an amazing hotel with incredible facilities. We booked through booking dot com and our booking included the private dining option. This comprised a special 8 course Japanese tasting menu for dinner as well as a multiple course Japanese breakfast. We dined and walked about the hotel in the yakatori and haoris they provided. The hotel has many onsen opportunities, which were fabulous. It was also good to be able to photograph the iconic red bridge in front of the hotel, which was the inspiration for the Spirited Away Ghibli movie. All in all, an incredible experience.

Everything about our stay at Sekizenkan was exceptional. The historic ryokan has been built upon with new, beautiful facilities and rooms that perfectly combine old and new. Our room was spacious, gorgeous, and thoughtfully fitted out with snacks, coffee, and teas. The private onsen was stunning, with a view of the forest surrounding the entire building. The staff were attentive and lovely, the check-in and check-out process was simple, travel to arrive and depart was straightforward, and every need was taken care of. I truly can't say enough positive things about this one-of-a-kind stay.

“Hospitable & Enjoyable Stay”
Hospitable staff with a warm welcome upon arrival - welcome snack served was a slice of castella cake & cup of green tea. Beautiful ryokan with 3 wings to explore - excellent activity have guests look for stamps in the various photo spots in the property. Kids were well entertained exploring the grounds. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Corridors well heated in the chilly mid-March weather. Very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

“A quiet and peaceful retreat, and definitely a ryokan history and anime lovers should not miss”
Historical and beautiful ryokan. They offer history tours on certain days of the week. There is a gallery exhibiting historical artifacts and also preserved guest rooms. Wonderful baths, beautiful rooms. They made an effort to cater to special dietary requests, even though I could not eat everything, but the thought and effort counts. Good service, and they try their best to communicate with non-Japanese speaking guests. Bonus: Hayao Miyazaki's signed autograhs a real treat to see in their exhibit area. Two great cafes in the onsen town area - Shima Terrace and Kashiwaya Cafe. Sekizenkan also has their own little cafe restaurant just before you cross the red bridge, but we did not get the chance to try.

“Perfection and proposals. 10/10”
An absolutely beautiful Onsen, with rich history, beautiful surrounding nature, stunning rooms and magical atmosphere. You really feel like you've stepped into a different world in Shima. The food is a culture experience as well as a culinary one. Shima will forever hold a special place in my and my darlings hearts - as we got engaged here on the red bridge. The locals are super friendly, and I wish more people could come and experience this region.

“A perfect ryokan experience”
We stayed at Kashotei building, and our room has a private onsen, which I highly recommend if staying as a couple. The room was more spacious than I thought, and there is plenty of room for luggage and bags. Pyjamas and yukatas are provided, which you can wear to breakfast and dinner, which makes the stay very cosy. There are welcome snacks and drinks available both in our room, and also at the lounge. Breakfast and dinner were very tasty and of excellent quality, we enjoyed the in-season ingredients which are from the local area. Every dish was made with care and presented beautifully. The public onsens across the 3 buildings are clean, well-maintained and very relaxing. The buildings are connected and we didn't need to go outside to access them. Staff at check-in also provided us with a map and explained how to get to the baths. Excellent ryokan, definitely need to visit if you are planning to visit the region.
