Buffet selection was very broad and all really delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was in a good location for the start of the trail, although need to check bus times/ route in advance, as not as frequent off season for the Magome trail and there isn’t a footpath/ it’s all on a main road if you try and walk to the footpath. Little bit dated but still very spacious and very clean

Room was clean, afternoon tea and drinks after checkin welcome. Dinner was plentiful with all you can drink on offer, also massage chairs and baths an option which we did not try.

We really enjoyed the onsen, which was very well maintained. The complimentary drinks in the lobby were a nice touch, and the room was clean.

Awesome stay, clean, food is good, snacks available all time of the day, view from the balcony is breathtaking, onsen is clean and feels wonderful. Upon arrival you are greeted by the staff, is helped with the check-in and explained how the facilities work and everything. Would book again anytime.

I genuinely don’t understand how this hotel only has 3 stars — it deserves far more. I’ve stayed in many high-end hotels and ryokans before, and this place easily exceeded my expectations. The onsens were absolutely fantastic: beautifully maintained, relaxing, and clearly designed with great attention to detail. The food was another highlight — with excellent quality and a great variety of dishes. The hotel also offers an impressive number of amenities for guests, which made the entire stay extremely comfortable and convenient. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and decorated in a very elegant modern Japanese style that felt both cozy and refined. Everything from the atmosphere to the service felt much more premium than what you would normally expect from a 3-star hotel. I would happily come back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay.

The facilities are incredible! The outdoor Onsens were my absolute fave! Every morning and evening we used them. The staff were so kind hand helpful. immaculately clean everywhere and the rooms were really comfortable and the food was 10/10. You can fully switch off here it's super relaxing.

Perfect location for exploring the Nakasendo Trail either from Tsumago-juku to Magome or in the opposite direction. Very helpful in assisting us with getting a taxi to the trail. Facilities were great from the Onsen to the dining facilities to the room. Everyone was very helpful and courteous.

The hotel is spacious, and we like the location that is out of noise. Best of it we can enjoy free flow of sake, wines and snacks.

Everything! The rooms were exceptionally clean and quiet, the outdoor onsen was peaceful and lovely, the buffet breakfast and dinners lacked nothing. All delicious Japanese food with wide variety of items. Love the complementary drinks and snacks in the lobby as well as the Massage chairs, ping pong, and comfortable robes to be worn throughout the facility. We stayed to be close to the Nakasendo Trail and it was very easy to access. We had no idea what a great place we had booked for two nights.

We spent 2.5 weeks traveling around Japan and for the night of my 50th birthday, we chose Taoya to splurge and enjoy a traditional Japanese style room. The room was beautiful and surprisingly spacious. We loved the incredible buffet style meals and enjoyed relaxing in our yukata in the lounge next to the fire with free drinks and snacks. The onsen was devine also. We had a hire car so found the location easy to access and loved being in the more remote area surrounded by forest.

Spacious rooms, buffet was great, loved the onsen. It felt like a very authentic Japanese hotel, rather than the western chain hotel.

We were travelling with our teenage daughters and hiking between Magome and Tsumago. We loved the beautiful location and that most of the people staying wore the yukata given to guests upon check in. The dinner and breakfast buffet were excellent quality with a wide range of dishes. We had the opportunity to try new and different food. The drinks were also very good quality. The onsen was beautiful, relaxing and a lovely experience. Rooms are simple, traditional Japanese style and very comfortable and spacious. The massage chairs are wonderful. We loved everything about our stay. We left feeling very chill. The hotel and the surrounding valley are stunning and next time we’d love to stay longer.

Great base for exploring the area. Great bufet at dinner and bfeakfast, clean and large rooms, great onsen, attentive staff. The kids loved the free ice cream at the lounge and we loved the free coffee.

Centrally located between Tsugome and Magome. The property is clean, and a good blend between modern and classic Japanese design. Food selection for Breakfast and Dinner is great! The onsen was good too.
