Great tatami room with beautiful view on the mountain landscape. Breakfast and dinner served in a private room were super delicious - traditional japanese food. Staff is super kind and speaks english. They all were helping and even drove us to the shrine a few kilometers away.

“Warm hospitality in a beautiful setting from Mrs Oshi and her daughters!”
What a truly special place. Mr and Mrs Oshi ran this magical ryokan for many years, and now Mrs Oshi and her wonderful daughters continue the legacy with such care and grace. The surrounding landscape is magnificent, but it is the warmth and hospitality of Mrs Oshi and her family that truly shines. Every meal was an absolute feast. Thank you so much for having us, and of course, best of luck to Sakiko with her training. Paddy & Rowena xxxx

Beautiful traditional stay, we had the room with private bathroom. The hot bath is the best after a day out in thr cold. The halfboard food provided is amazing. Lovely stay, will want to go back in summer.

“Peaceful location, fabulous room, welcoming staff and wonderful food.”
Beautiful and comfortable room in a lovely historic building. Everything was well maintained and spotlessly clean. All the shared facilities were well located and the hot tub much appreciated. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I can honestly say that the meals were among the very best that I have had in Japan - the servings were generous and the variety of dishes and presentation was superb. I would thoroughly recommend this ryokan to anyone considering a visit to Togakushi. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

“Traditional Japanese Ryokan that feels like a home”
We had the most wonderful 2-night stay in Togakushi, right next to the breathtaking Togakushi Shrine - the number one attraction in Nagano and absolutely worth every moment. The setting was magical, surrounded by towering cedar trees and stunning views of the Japanese Alps. The Ryokan itself was beautifully traditional, incredibly cosy, and very comfortable. It offered that perfect blend of authenticity and relaxation - the kind of place that makes you slow down and fully appreciate where you are. One of the main reasons we chose to stay here was the food, and it turned out to be best Japanese cuisine we have had. We opted for both breakfast and dinner, and each meal was presented and prepared with such care - easily on par with a prestigious restaurant. Every dish was bursting with flavour and creativity; we were genuinely blown away by how delicious it all was. The hosts were wonderful - warm, welcoming, and attentive without ever being intrusive. They made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We also did a day trip to the famous Snow Monkey Park, which was easy to reach with regular buses from Nagano Station directly to the property. We can’t recommend this Ryokan highly enough. It’s the perfect place to experience authentic Japanese hospitality, stunning natural beauty, and exceptional food all in one.

“A Charming Stay with Wonderful Hospitality”
When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner’s wife, who showed us to our room where green tea and treats were waiting — a lovely touch, especially as it was pouring with rain. The room, while slightly retro, was full of character and wonderfully peaceful. We loved sitting by the window, listening to the rain and gazing out at the mountains until dinner. Dinner did not disappoint — it was the best meal we had in Japan. The owner was a real character and made the experience even more memorable by chatting with us as he served the food. When we checked out, we were able to leave our bags while we explored the local shrine trail. As we hadn’t reserved a bus seat, the owner kindly offered to call a taxi for us, though fortunately we managed to catch the local service in the end.

“Perfect. Would 100% recommend to my family and friends, and would revisit the first chance I get.”
The hosts were some of the best people we have met on our travels. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The property is nearly 200 years old and was very well maintained, so we got to experience the authentic japanese way of life. The property was very conveniently located, being just a few steps away from the bus stand and the Shrine.

“Wonderful 2 nights in a family run ryokan”
Owners were wonderful, the food was delicious and changed each night (some of the best we had in Japan!), room was spacious and had great views. Location was great, we had a car so easy to get around to the Togakushi shrine walk and a short trip to Nagano City. Visited the snow monkeys on our trip home.

“A home in the mountains”
The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. The room was thoughtfully prepared for us in advance of arrival with tea and the heating turned on. The hosts lent us a bear bell for our hike and drove us to our bus stop after our stay which we were greatly appreciative of. Staying here and meeting the owners was a highlight of our trip.

The ryokan is over 200 years old, charming, and cozy. The dinner and breakfast were the best food I had in Japan. The host and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish I could have stayed longer than just one night. I will definitely stay again in the future

The Ryokan is old and beautiful. Access from the bus stop is very close. The local shrine and the Togakushi walk are very beautiful in the snow. The meals at the Ryokan are plentiful, beautifully presented and delicious. Oshi is a friendly and generous host.
