We had an extremely distressing and disappointing experience at Lagoon Chalet. Upon returning to the unit in the evening, we discovered a live bat flying inside the small space. While frightening in itself, what was more alarming was the clear evidence (visible in the photos we took) that the bat had likely been present before our arrival — there were extensive droppings (guano) in the bathroom attic area, and one of our apples appeared to have bite marks. This raised serious health concerns including potential exposure to Australian bat lyssavirus, a fatal disease, as well as Histoplasmosis from inhaling spores in bat droppings. We attempted to contact the property on their emergency number but were unable to reach anyone until the following morning, leaving us with no safe place to sleep. In the end, we had to book and pay for last-minute emergency accommodation elsewhere, which was not reimbursed. The unit was ultimately not habitable, nor could a proper decontamination be guaranteed the next day. The only refund offered was for one night, which does not cover the cost or stress of what occurred. The lack of a 24/7 emergency contact, the dismissive communication, and the failure to provide a safe and hygienic environment were all deeply unacceptable. We have photos documenting the issue and will be pursuing a formal complaint. We strongly urge others to reconsider booking here unless urgent improvements are made in safety protocols and guest support.
