We had a wonderful stay! The accommodation is so cozy, full of saul and unique personality, and has a truly special ambiance. The views from the bedroom and the terrace are absolutely fantastic. Plus, the host is more than wonderful—incredibly helpful and welcoming. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

15 of 10 starts, everything from A to Z exceptional. Branko, the owner waited for me in parking lot, payed the parking fee for me and guided me to the appartment. He had filled the fridge and brought an "Osterpinze" (because he himself doesn't like to arrive somewhere and find the fridge empty as he said). The appartment is in the old town with the balkony and bed overlooking the beauty of the Istrian rolling hills. Its quiet except some occasional farming activities in a nearby wineyard. The interior of the appartment proves the exceptional taste of Branko (turns out he is a professor in history of arts). He answered to questions on WhatsApp within seconds, had great recommendations for restaurants and what to do. He booked the best table on day of arrival in a very good restaurant for me.

“Like living in an eclectic museum with a gorgeous view”

Besides the unbelievable views, the apartment itself is like living in an eclectic museum. The decor is unlike you experience in an AirBnB. Clearly a work of work and love. There is even an old vinyl player. The proprietor was a very kind and responsible bloke who helped with luggages as well getting extra pillows.

This is the most unique and special place we have stayed on our many visits to Croatia. Branko gave us a warm welcome but then gave us privacy. The interior is an eclectic mix of history and modern so cleverly put together. The outside space is breathtaking…. Motovun is beautiful. Highly recommended!!

“Balm for the soul”

It’s a slice of idiosyncratic heaven. We loved it and have no hesitation in recommending it. It was our favourite place in Croatia.

Everything was great, the apartment is very comfortable, beautifully decorated and well equiped. The balcony and the view from the room are wonderful. Also, the owner is very nice, gave us advices for the area, heated the apartment for our arrival and left some food for breakfast, which was unexpected so we had stuff with us, but still a very nice touch :) Hvala Branko!

Our stay at The Birdhouse was truly unforgettable. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of the old town, offering stunning, panoramic views of the valley. Every detail was thoughtfully chosen, and we especially loved spending time on the balcony, taking in the tranquil beauty of the town and the surrounding landscape. Branko was an incredible host, kind, welcoming and his hospitality truly made our stay special. We couldn’t recommend this place more highly. The Birdhouse is a magical spot, a true hidden gem in the heart of this beautiful town!

Beyond good. Better than the pictures, spotlessly clean, has everything you might need. Feels like a home, not like a rental. The views are incredible and ever-changing through the day with the lighting and the clouds.

“A touch of magic in a fairytale hilltop town”

Extraordinary position in the old town of Motovun with a view from your bedroom and small terrace that is truly breathtaking. Branko was the most helpful of hosts, providing plenty of information (walks, restaurants etc), generous breakfast provisions and little personal touches.

“Perfect place to spend time in a peaceful setting, and for a base to explore central Istria”

The location was perfect, which from observation is the quieter side of the village. Branko, our host, provided very detailed instructions on how to get to the parking area just below the accommodation. However, I still managed to get confused, but Branko was so lovely and patient, ringing me to make sure we were finally on track. Another great tip from Brank: bring hand carry only if staying in the village. ( we left our suitcases in the car). The room itself was fantastic, with a gorgeous view overlooking the valley. The patio was perfect spot to have a coffee and relax. Bonus having a clothesline- just make sure you use the pegs! The decor is very interesting and eclectic, with great A/C as well as lovely music playing when we first entered. Given it was a Sunday and grocery shop was closed, Branko had a few supplies in the fridge for us, which was very thoughtful. We are so glad we decided to stay in Motovun for 2 nights. Do ask Branko for tips as he is very helpful in providing areas of interest. Also try and check out some Agroturizams for your meals- there are plenty around. Thanks Branko, for providing such a wonderful home, and for your hospitality.

“A wonderfully decorated gem of an apartment from which to explore Motovun”

The property is spacious and exceptionally well decorated with lots of quirky little touches. The views from the terrace are amazing. When we arrived, Branko, our host greeted us at the roadside and showed us where an available parking slot was. He then guided us to the apartment. He’d stocked the fridge with some basics to get us going and was a mime of information about Motovun. The apartment has plenty of books and magazines about Istria to browse and enthuse.

Great apartment with a fantastic view. Special praise goes to the host who really made an effort with detailed advice about restaurants and sights in Motovun and the surrounding area. The apartment also has various useful books and tourist guides, as well as a gramophone and a collection of gramophone records that you can listen to.

Nice, quirky and very peaceful apartment with the most stunning views. Very friendly owner Branko made sure that we had everything we needed and we also got some great tips about what to see&do in the area from him.

“Wonderful unique place with great ballcony/Terrasse”

Great Location, super friendly welcome by Branco, unique place with beautiful Terrasse and view over The Valley. 1/2 way up the cobble stone “street”, so a 15 minute walk uphill with the need to carry your luggage, so nothing for people with handicap or out of shape. Short walk to top where you find nice restaurants with beautiful views and sunsets. Lots of truffle dishes!

Central location with incredible views & a terrace to enjoy them. The Birdhouse is full of quirky furtniture & knick knacks that gives it loads of personality. Branko is a very helpful & responsive host. He left some welcome supplies & lovely thoughful touches. It's a short walk up to the centre of Motovun where there are shops, bars & restaurants. A perfect place to stay to discover the charms of Motovun & central Istria.
